★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Loved this place. Tranquil, pretty and well kept by European management. Restaurant is good and well priced, beach is nice and private, sea beautiful. This place is kinda isolated so the beaches around that are not very well kept which was a bit of a bummer. But spending 3 nights there was great to switch off completely from
The city life :) ps WiFi not really working.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Hotel looks exceptional! Green, cozy, quiet place on a good distance from cities. I absolutely loved its modern natural design. Both common areas and rooms I found perfect.
Food in a restaurant was delicious and well presented. Service on a good level.
Beach side - amazing! But not during sargasso period :((. Even if you don't manage to swim you will be able to enjoy beautiful sunrise from your balcony and then chill out on sun beds during the day.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I hate to be this person, but the reef at this beach is dead and the beach is crawling with sand fleas. Besides these major items the beach is rather lovely and secluded. It's a bit of a drive from Costa Maya, so I would only go if you're staying multiple nights or have a full day. The food was okay. My favorite was the guacamole. I don't think I would come back.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Nice hotel and good food, but there are a few negatives:
1. A lot of litter on the hotel beach and more left and right of the hotel.
2. To get to the beach we had to wad through a stretch of 5 meters of seagrass which has not been cleaned up in 4 days.
3. Beware of a 5% credit card surcharge for all restaurant bills
4. When entering my room the (male) #room service who made the room stood in front of the mirror putting some creme on his face, we found that really odd.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Loved this place. We stayed 4 days and really enjoyed the peace and quiet of Almaplena. Jan, the manager was very helpful and professional. It's a 1/2 hour drive south of Mahahual. Every room has a safe where you are supposed to keep your money and valuables. If you want to relax and enjoy a beautiful beach this is the place.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ My husband and I chose Almaplena for the day while we were cruising. They all inclusive price was perfect - drinks, lunch, and transportation to and from the cruise ship were included. The beach was covered in sea grass but the owner was so apologetic, he offered us a refund if we didn’t want to stay. We stayed anyway and loved it. Sea grass is an all-over ocean problem, not just Almaplena, so we were still happy to stay with all their other amenities (cocktail pool, palapas, great service.) The best part is that there was only ONE other couple with us - we had the resort to ourselves on a random Tuesday. Thank you, Almaplena, for the perfect relaxing day!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I wanted to give a really nice review, because we had a great time in the hotel. We liked to food, room was ok and the beach was awesome and calm. Everything seemed great, they treated us nicely. We gave to staff really generous tips, but couple hours later (after leaving) found out someone stole me 1000 pesos from my laptop bag, which I had in our room the whole time. I do not want to sound dramatic, but it is sad. And if the person thought I would not figure it out, I did. So I cannot recommend this hotel.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Beautiful interior design, unique to the property. Peaceful and quiet retreat tucked away in nature. Things are a bit slower paced, restaurant service ... but your on vacation to enjoy yourself. Dinner, and breakfast were very good. Pool is nice to look at, not much for getting in though. Hotel is right in front of the beach. Very quiet area. Not highly recommended for kids as there is not much to do for them.
