★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Nice Bungalow with a beautiful view. Good restaurant and really good tours! Was one of the best days out snorklin and driving through the mangroves.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We tried "only" diving and restaurant here (no accommodation) and everything was perfect. Everybody was nice and friendly.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Ilana and her staff at Costa de Cocos were welcoming and professional. We really felt at home and enjoyed every single day. Being the only group of fishermen during that week made our stay extra special. Massive kudos to their chef too, who cooked amazingly delicious meals. Despite strong wind gusts, our group of 4 fishermen had a lot of fun chasing saltwater fishes on the flats of Chetumal Bay. We landed 80+ bonefishes during our 6-day stay (most of them wading on the mangrove-lined lagoons). Unfortunately we couldn't land the 3 permits that we hooked from the boat. Our private shuttle (included in our all in package) took 5 hours to drive from/to Cancun. Wifi is a bit weak, so consider downloading your heavy files before arriving.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ? Wili is an excellent server and he's what saves this review from being closer to one star. Wili deserves 5 stars. ?
? The hotel area is very cool, I like the laid back vibe and the sea front location.
? The food is OK, it's average, I wouldn't write home about it. We tried the fish tacos but they're grouper and we couldn't finish any of them. The nachos are good and so are the coconut shrimp, but don't expect a lot of coco, which is ironic considering the name of the restaurant. ?
⌚ The sticking point here is the amount of time it took for us to get the food...2 hours. We got the appetizer 45 minutes after ordering, then the main dishes started coming out, which is normal, but the wait time is incredibly long.
I suggest not arriving hungry because you'll start getting hungry before you get your food.
There are a couple of other great places to eat here in xcalak, I just don't know if I'd take the time to eat here again.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ One of the most amazing trips of my life. Willie, Francisco, Pepe, and Nacho made this trip an unforgettable experience. The best service one could ever ask for. Staff that truly cares about how well your day is and how comfortable you are. The food was first class and we had plenty of it. A very local experience sleeping in a Mexican palapa cooled by the ocean breeze. Very relaxed backcountry feel. Again, I can't say more about the staff. Truly wonderful people who I will consider friends for the rest of my life. I will be back.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We didn’t stay at the hotel (although may in a future trip, it looked nice), but we did a guided fly fishing trip with Reuben and he was fantastic. He definitely knows the water and can spot the fish. He’s a great guide. We caught four tarpons and many bonefish. You can tell he cares about catching fish and was as happy as we were to get them. Thanks Reuben!
