Sensational private dining experience. Every detail, from welcome cocktail to postres, was perfect. Already planning a return visit. For a special occasion, I think this new dining model is going to have huge success.

It starts as a magical mystery tour into a quiet residential neighborhood in Puerto Vallarta. You only have a street address and a description of the building — there is no signage. You immediately think of a speakeasy — was there a secret password we were supposed to know? Once you enter the doors (a relic from the old El Arrayan), you enter a warm, inviting space where you meet your dinner companions for the evening. You relax in a comfortable living room-like setting and enjoy one of the special cocktails for the evening. While you are enjoying your cocktail, your hosts, Carmen and Claudia, are passing the hors d’oeuvres of the evening around and getting to know you (or catching up for former El Arrayan patrons). From there, you migrate to the table set for twelve. No two chairs are the same and Carmen or Claudia steer you to where they would like you to sit. From there, you enjoy your three course meal, accompanied by a glass of wine with the appetizer and main course. The menu changes frequently; given that we were dining here during the holidays, the menu was a traditional Mexican holiday menu. Each of the courses were delicious, innovative, and correctly sized. The chosen wines were a good accompaniment. But the best part of the evening was getting to know the other guests, helped along with the participation of Carmen and Claudia in the the conversations. We ended up spending three hours there for dinner. This is a perfect place to have a dinner party for a group of eight to twelve friends. Or you can’t do like we did, see if there is availability on a night and go as a smaller group that will marry up with others to have a wonderful secret dinner. Give it a try!

My Oculto experience was truly a night to remember! Fantastic culinary delights kept appearing before and during the meal. Always great to see Carmen and Claudia and wish them well in this new endeavor.

Wow! This is a must do on any PV trip. From the mystery of the location to the unknown food you will be served, it is a true gem. The atmosphere of the dining room is unique and the staff is wonderful. If you appreciate artful cooking, this is your place. Several courses come out competing against the prior one. If you have ever dreamed of having top chefs and staff at your beckon call, this will for sure be your dream come true. We had a party of 11 where everyone felt it was so inviting and personal. I will definitely be back. Gracias!

We had a superb evening at our dinner with Oculto. In charming surroundings, we were able to have an intimate dining experience, combining superb flavors of Mexico with a truly wonderful private social setting. The folks of Oculto are friendly and knowledgeable, adding to the enjoyment of the entire experience.

Yesterday afternoon my friend and I took the cooking class at Oculto. It was such a splendid experience! We so enjoyed working with Carmen and Diego and their team members. We had a salad of chayote, a Chile relleno and a chocolate flan altogether with a delicious passion fruit cocktail and homemade tortillas and roasted tomato salsa. The portions were very generous and we even skipped dinner later that day! It was fun to be hands on with the cooking and we learned a lot about the ingredients and how to prepare them. Overall it was a fun and delicious afternoon and we highly recommend it and would do it again ourselves.

A unique private dining experience from talented Mexican chefs. Delicious and friendly in every way! Carmen is a fantastic host! Wonderful beverages and rare Mexican wines. A great deal that you won’t find anywhere else in PV
