En tiempos precuauhtémicos perteneció al Poderío de Texcoco, fue el embarcadero por naturaleza que formó un poblado a sus alrededores.
En el momento del Contacto de Culturas, fue el paso de Hernán Cortés, al bajar de los volcanes, de echo la avenida principal lleva su nombre.
En la época de la Evangelización fue paso de Jesuitas, Franciscanos y queda a cargo de Agustinos l construcción de un Convento, una Parroquia y una Capilla, la cual no se acaba de construirse.
Este poblado está ubicado en un terreno intermedio entre suelo resistente y suelo arenoso, por si fuera poco, la desecación del Lago de Chalco, sumado a que está en las laderas de un sistema volcánico, lo sitúa sobre fallas geológicas., que han deteriorado a la Parroquia de una manera muy fuerte.
Durante l Revolucion fue refugio de ambas tropas.
Y es escenario de la conformación de la Revolución Cubana, ya que en el año de 1956 llegan Fidel Castro y Ernesto el
“Che” Guevara a entrenar a 25 de sus
Revolucionarios. Fue arrestado en suelo mexicano y liberado por el Presidente Lázaro Cárdenas, siendo la mecha que culmina en el año de 1959.
