★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Pros: Our service agent in Puerto Vallarta was professional and courteous.
Cons: we purchased Telcel SIM cards and 2 data plans for our phones in Cabo. One was a 6GB plan for 500 pesos and the other was a 2GB for 150 pesos. We thought this would last us for probably a month during our travels all over Mexico.
The problem is that the Telcel agent in Cabo failed to properly set our phones to our appropriate plans. As a result within a week, we were both receiving text messages from Telcel informing us to recharge our plans!
The agent described that it's a Telcel system error that only the agent in Cabo has the "code" to allow another Telcel agent to reset our appropriate data plan levels. Huh??? When we asked if our agent in PV could call the office in Cabo to hopefully speak to the agent there, he said no, that wasn't possible. (???)
Wait, so the nationwide cellular service provider in Mexico has a glitch in the system where one agent's error essentially prevents ANY OTHER TELCEL AGENT FROM FIXING IT???
This is ridiculous and inexcusable.
As a result, we both had to re-purchase our data plans again in Puerto Vallarta
I'm posting this review on both Telcel outlets locations (Cabo and Puerto Vallarta) hoping that management sees this review and looks into appropriate measures to prevent this oversight from happening again to other travelers.
Traveller advisory - if you buy a SIM card with Telcel and a data plan, be sure you get a confirmation that the agent has activated the right plan for your phone. Otherwise you may just be paying twice.
