Absolutely a must-do!! They are not a petting zoo. They nature rescue is a rehabilitation and long-term care facility. Your tours help to pay for and promote this activity.

My wife and I visited the Akumal Natura Rescue while recently visiting the area. Let me preface that we are both very active in multiple Michigan animal rescue programs. We were nothing but completely impressed by ANR. The variety of animals to interact with was outstanding. Among the animals in their rescue are: Spider Monkey, Owls, Eagles, Boa Constrictors, Parrots, Macaws, a local species of pig and many more. Also on offering at ANR are samples of natural Gum Tree 'gum', Cinnamon leaves, SourSop Tea (reported to have anti-cancer properties) and delicious honey made by the Tetragonisca angustula stingless bee. Both the owner and our guide for the tour were very generous with their time and knowledge. Not only giving us a very thorough tour of the facility but also taking the time to answer all of our questions and point out much of the local flora as well. Their cenote was beautiful and great for a refreshing swim after our tour. All of the money raised from the tours / food goes directly back into the support of the animals at the facility. ANR also engages in some re-population and release programs for many of the species in their care. They also kindly gave us a ride back to the door of our hotel, included in the package price. If you love animals and have any wish to support a well-run and caring animal rescue, go visit ANR. It was a great experience.

Amazing place. Our tour guide linked together the chewing gum industry with Mayan history and the animals he deeply cares about. It was a series of beautiful stories and moments that became the highlight of our trip.

This is not what appears in the website or as described in many "reviews". It is a nice, open air restaurant/bar with a small garden and semi-enclosed cave cenote. Tasty entradas. Big disappointment: there is NO animal "rescue" here as indicated by the website or Google. There apparently is an animal rescue site 6 km down the road, at a "glamping site", available only with a paid tour at 10 am or 3 pm.

Great place, the guides and the owner are amazing! After 15 minutes of a unique Maya massage (in a pickup!), you'll be literraly transported in the mayan world to see and experience the real Yucatan jungle. We have learned plenty of utility of many trees and plants, and all of the animals you'll encounter are either recued or saved from abuse or wounded. Indeed this is the best place to have a unique journey different of all the stuff you usually know about Mexico! Most of all, wait at the end of the visit, it definitely worth it! Keep up the excellent work guys!

Akumal Natura Rescue is the best / only real option if you want to view animals in a healthy environment that promotes rehabilitation of the animals and their eventual release to the wild. The guide was amazing, the animals were well taken care of, you get to interact with the animals, the cenote was perfect, and most importantly they didn’t try to up sell you on expensive photo packages etc. Highly recommend!

One of the best experiences. Our guide Gabo gave us a wonderful tour, and it was amazing how well they cared about the animals they've rescued. It was fun to interact with monkeys and parrots, followed by a private cenote swim.

Wonderful place, cenote was beautiful. Restraunt had best ceviche ever, all of the food was incredible. Everyone was extremely nice. Definately a spot you must try.
