Good experience! We stayed in Tulum, and asked our hotel who they recommended for rental cars. They listed a couple to beware of and recommended Alamo. They even talked with them on the phone for me and a couple guys from Alamo delivered the car to my hotel and then picked it up a few day later for no extra charge!! So we had a great experience, and I'm really happy. Also, for people saying that they will add on extras later after you book a rental, all the insurances are required in Mexico except perhaps the one covering bodily harm so it's just a cost you have to be aware of ahead of time.

Do NOT recommend at all! I’ve reserved a minivan here via Expedia page a week in advance. They had my reservation however they didn’t have my car. They said that’s because I didn’t pay for it online, I “just” reserved the car. First of all there was no option to pay for it online even when I did online check in, then they offered me a 5 passenger car like I ordered minivan because I like driving them, not because I needed car with more seats. I’m staying in Tulum for couple more months but I highly doubt I’ll ever try to use Alamo again.

"Reserved" a car online through Expedia for 10:30am and was told they didn't have any when we arrive. As other comments mentioned, we were told that "as we did not pay for it, they cannot guarantee it" even though there is no option to pay online! The other car rentals were all out too as it is a Saturday. Booked another one for 1:30pm and sat in the office the whole time. ( Also to note this one being a smaller car, for double the price of the original) When 1:30 came, he stated that there are no cars. We have to wait until one returns. While waiting I checked online and it stated that there 7 cars available now. So either they don't want to rent cars or they have an extremely poor online booking system. So disappointed. Really put a damper on the day, as we were collecting friends and head to PDC for a friend's birthday.

The reservation is only your wish to rent a car in that place. When we came to get a car the employee said: your reservation has the small price, we have sold the car more expensive, no cars available for you. P.S. answer to owner/manager. 1.See bookind detales on the photo. 2. The solution of problem that your company create me was cost me about 150 USD 3.I am absolutely sure it is the standard practice to cancel booking in your company or add additional fee if the price of booking is to small in your opinion

So I'm iffy on car rentals in Mexico.. overall the customer service on the employees behalf would be rated a 7 out of 10 due to lack of visibility. We rented a car and when we arrived at the location they did not have a car available. I had just dealt with this at another rental company (fox rent a car) l. I called before going to the office to make sure there would be a vehicle available. First we had to wait 30 minutes for a person to arrive at the office (at 1 pm) then was told it would be 1.5 hrs till they could have a car ready. We decided to set up the car pick up for 8 pm and asked they deliver the car to us due to skepticism of rental availability. They said they would and they even picked up the car from us the next evening. The only hiccup here was that no one answered the phones and the office had been closed early so when we couldn't reach anyone we tried to drop the car off. There's no where to just pull in and drop the car after hours. Customer service allotted me extra time to bring the car in the morning with no extra fee. They ended up calling us back an hour later and picked up the car. I thought that was really sweet and honestly some of the best customer service from a company I had experienced

I read all the reviews from Alamo and other companies and kind of saw what were the problems people were experiencing and decided to go with Alamo. I rented a car from them two times during my stay and both times went well. First time I walked in right before closing because I didn't want them to tell me in the morning when I have plans that they didn't have a car. I got only basic insurance since I had collision protection through my credit card and didn't want to have to explain that to them. Second time I made a reservation through their website. Both times it went smooth. They take a 14k pesos deposit that they return once they inspect the car.

Despite some skepticism, I had a great experience. I walked in with no reservation, was able to get a great car for a week for the cheapest price I could find around town. Immediately gave me ‘full price in total’ with full insurance coverage. (Ended up being maybe $40 more with tax and exchange fee on a US credit card). It took about 20 minutes to walk in and get car. Dropping it off at Cancun was quite easy as well and immediately had a shuttle waiting for us to the airport a couple minutes away. Maybe 10/15 minutes total for drop off. The downside.. I got lucky, there was only one car left there. A reservation could be a safer way.

After reading many bad reviews of rental companies in Mexico we went for Alamo as recommended by our hotel. It was a good experience, brought car to our hotel, explained everything in clear English and were very friendly. We didn't damage the car and check out went smoothly. Mind you that third party liability insurance is mandatory and included in the price. Watch out for the speedbumps, don't park under a coconut tree and your all good! Definitely recommended.
