America Car Rental - 97000 Mérida

Esta empresa tiene varias estafas! Ten cuidado! They tell you the insurance hold on your credit card will be something like $15,000 US. Excessive, but fine. However, somehow my card with No Limit wouldn’t work, even though I got the credit card company on the phone and they explained to the America Rental employee that there’s no limit and that they saw no evidence of an attempt at a charge. (We tried three other credit cards, same situation.) The employee then told me if I pay another fee of about $150 US they’ll lower the hold charge to $500. I did that and then, miraculously, the hold charge went though even though it hadn’t before. So, I paid an extra $150 on top of the regular rate. Clever scam I couldn’t get around. Also, the cleaning fee is listed as $40-$50 US. I’ve never had a cleaning fee at another company, but fine. We returned our car muddy on the outside, with sand and dirt on the inside (we visited a lot of cenotes!) and expected to pay $50. They tried to charge ~$150 US for excessive exterior dirt and could not show me any notice in the contract or on a sign explaining why. I argued it down to $100 ($50 interior cleaning, $50 exterior), which is still ridiculous. But what could I do? I had to make a flight and it was either pay that or they’d keep the insurance hold on my car.

Do not rent a vehicle here!!!. Staff members were stating we had damaged the rim of the vehicle. We showed them the video we had taken the day we rented and inspected the vehicle. Staff members returned my security deposited, however they stated that they were going to place a claim with the insurance policy we purchased. My husband Esteban Juarez Giron asked them why, if we weren't the ones who damaged the vehicle. They refused to provide the name of the insurance carrier. This is clearly a fraud, someone else damaged this vehicle and this agency probably placed a claim as well on this vehicle and received $$.: My husband originally gave them 5 stars when we checked it in but returning the vehicle we are giving them a 1.. Staff was friendly and helpful. It is off site from the airport, but easy to navigate in and out. Carla was helpful even through the language barrier. Anna wa great on our checkout and explained very well what our refund would be. Thanks to the entire staff.

Horrible experiece. I paid for an automatic and then was told they did not have any. I had my own full coverage insurance but they would not accept that and wanted me to either purchase theirs or leave a $7,000 dollar deposit on a card. I gave a card and then according to their system my card would not go through. Called my cc company and they said there was nothing wrong with my card and they did not see any attempts to put a charge through. The car rental co then offered a discount kn the insurance and they assured me my card would go through. I walked away, will call expedia to get my money back. Stay away from this company which operates also as Nu Car rental and Economy rent a car

It was my first time in Mérida, and the car rental I had booked weeks prior to arrival tried to scam us upon arriving to their office away from the airport. America Car Rental saved our vacation in the very last minute! Carla helped us and was so kind and honest. The whole experience was lovely, and they made sure they did everything they could do to make sure we trusted them. I will use this car rental service every time I come back to Mérida. I’m a flight attendant and I travel often and have rented cars all over the world. I will happily recommend this company to anyone, and also on my travel blog! Thanks for saving our vacation!!!

They were waiting outside for us to get to the rental store, from getting picked up to checking in/out everything was easy and everybody was so nice! We could not return the car on time but they were helpful over the phone and had no issue returning the car hour and a half late. Thank you so much for all your amazing service :) I high recommend this company!

Scam company. We rented a car for two days and after 1 hour our tire burst! Clearly an old and used tire. While we were charged for a new tire we heard other customers also complain about similar scam situations (one customer was even asked to make a deposit equal to the new value of the car). Besides the fact that it is not safe to rent a car, be prepared to get scammed when using this company. I have send an e-mail to their customer service e-mail: no response

A good experience overall with this company. They gave us a near new car in very clean condition. The handover processes were smooth and easy. In my experience some people may feel they have been scammed because of the way the broker Nu rental advertise their rate - missing their mandatory insurance. But all in all a good service, with friendly staff and a great value even including the cost of insurance.
