Crear un centro de excelencia que brindara a los jóvenes acapulqueños la oportunidad de formarse académicamente en su propia ciudad y fortalecer más adelante el entorno en que se desarrolla su vida profesional. Se trata de uno de los primeros proyectos por crear una universidad privada en su estructura jurídica, pero plenamente social y pública en su filosofía y compromiso comunitario. La agrupación civil que formó esta institución, denominada Universidad Americana de Acapulco A.C. ha trabajado para sortear las dificultades que trae consigo un proyecto de la envergadura de nuestra institución. En la medida de sus posibilidades cada uno de sus integrantes ha aportado valiosas ideas para consolidar este proyecto académico, educativo y cultural. La UAA inició actividades en el año 1991, Su campus central se encuentra en la Avenida Costera Miguel Alemán y a lo largo de los años se ha convertido en un referente de la educación media superior y superior en Acapulco y en el Estado de Guerrero. El edificio central es una construcción de cinco niveles alrededor de una fuente monumental. En tal edificio se encuentran las principales oficinas de la Universidad como la rectoría, la vicerrectoría y la oficina del Abogado General y las áreas administrativas. No obstante, el mayor espacio lo ocupan los salones, auditorios y la Biblioteca Central.
