A really incredible school with an incredible group of teachers. If you're looking for the opportunity to improve your Spanish both in comprehension and in speech, Amigos del Sol is a fantastic place to do so, as the teachers have the experience necessary to guide you towards your goal. Class schedules are very flexible, and I found their homestay program to be extremely convenient and comfortable.

This was my third time to take Spanish classes at Amigos Del Sol and my experience has been excellent every time. The owner Rogelio Ballesteros has always made me feel welcomed. He can arrange your classes, hours and teachers to accommodate your schedule. I took weekly classes with Chris and Miriam. Both are excellent teachers. Miriam has the gift of teaching Spanish based on your individual method of learning. I encourage you to participate in the homestay. You learn more Spanish and develop lasting friendships. The meals are really good as are the accommodations. All three visits I stayed with Pati and Mario and throughly enjoyed the meals, coffee and conversations. Have the experience of a lifetime and attend Amigos Del Sol in Oaxaca Mexico.

I have been studying at Amigos Del Sol for a year. I recommend it enthusiastically. The teachers are friendly and committed; the lessons are structured to meet your level of knowledge; and the classes are so small that the teachers are able to recognize the particular sub-areas that you might want to improve -- whether it’s the subjunctive, a specific verb tense, indirect objects or just expanding vocabulary. For most of the year Rogelio, the director, has been my instructor. His knowledge of the structure of the language -- the grammar and syntax -- is deep, but his presentation is direct and understandable. My daughter has also been taking lessons two hours/week with him for 2 months and not only did she agree he’s an excellent teacher, but also told me she is sure she won’t learn as much in a full year of AP Spanish in the Fall (when we return to the US) as she did in the short time with Rogelio. When I came to the school in late August 2017, I knew almost no Spanish. I now feel that I can carry on a conversation with anyone on just about any topic. But more important, Amigos has led me to really enjoy learning Spanish and that’s the key to ultimate fluency.

My wife and I studied Spanish at Amigos del Sol in May 2019. We had 10 private classes spread across 3 weeks to fit in with our other activities in Oaxaca. Rogelio was very responsive to our initial enquiries and was enthusiastic and welcoming to us every day at school. Our main teacher Chris was friendly and professional (and more importantly, patient with us). The classes were interesting and pitched at the right level for our current competencies. We also had some classes with Estevan and he was likewise very friendly and knowledgeable. The staff communicated well with us and with each other and everything ran very smoothly. The school itself is clean, well-maintained and comfortable. We would definitely recommend Amigos del Sol to other potential students. Thanks team!

I stayed in Oaxaca for a year and took Spanish classes with Amigos del Sol. They taught me a lot and also treated me like family! It is a great community were you can get to know fellow students and learn and practice your Spanish. I would 100% recommend this school to anyone looking to learn Spanish. The teachers are amazing and the school is just perfect.

I would recommend this school to anyone wanting to learn Spanish during there time in Oaxaca. It has a wonderful curriculum for teaching Spanish and is very structured. The owner is very kind and the teachers are as well. I personally had Chris as my teacher and would recommend him to anyone! He was a fantastic teacher and is easy to talk to which is important if you are taking a one on one class. If you are looking for a school, I’d recommend to not look anymore and go try and get Chris as your teacher, or whoever is available. I’m sure they are all wonderful at what they do!

I was looking for a different type of Spanish school, one that would emphasize conversation over grammar lessons. Amigos del Sol fit this requirement perfectly. For 1 week for 2 1/2 hour each weekday we would have non-stop conversations in Spanish with a teacher and either one other student or myself alone with the teacher. My teacher, Sandra, was excellent and carefully corrected our mistakes. The school director Rogelio treated everyone like family. It was an excellent experience and quite reasonable as well. I highly recommend this school.

Amigos del Sol is an excellent Spanish school in Oaxaca! We can't recommend it highly enough!!! We spent two weeks studying here in April 2018 and loved it. The style is very focused on conversation and being able to get to a point where you can chat away in Spanish - it felt like total immersion and we improved our spoken Spanish no end. Rogelio, the owner, is fantastic - he is always on hand to answer questions, cares a massive amount about your progress and is completely flexible about the way we wanted to learn. It was a real family like atmosphere - very relaxed! And, unlike other schools in Oaxaca where they promise small class sizes, and then have more than 5 people in them, it was just my husband and I in the class. The price was very reasonable for 20 hours of private classes! We stayed in a homestay in the San Felipe area which we also loved - spending lunch sat with the family practicing all the Spanish we had just learnt and trying lots of different local food. San Felipe (where the school is based) is a little bit further out of Oaxaca, but it wasn't really a problem at all. A taxi to the centre is about 60 pesos, or the bus 7, or it's about a 35 minute walk. But San Felipe itself is really lovely - a small village like atmosphere on the edge of town. Anyway - very much recommend this school!!
