About Anglers Inn

A little history

For over three decades, Anglers Inn International has worked to give experienced anglers and novices alike the fishing trip of a lifetime. We’ve hosted many luminaries from the fishing world in both Mexico and Brazil, along with professional athletes, titans of industry, and folks from every walk of life and from all over the world who want to experience the best fishing on earth. Over 80 percent of our business comes from repeat customers, and with appearances on major television shows and in magazines ranging from Bassmaster to Forbes, we’ve made a name for ourselves as the premier angling outfitter in the Americas.

Regardless of which of our six properties you visit, certain aspects of this operation will be the same. The food is five-star quality, your laundry will be washed and folded every day, and the van will always be there at the appointed time. We pride ourselves on our commitment to service, and we try to impress that ideal on all of our employees, who often become like family to us and to our guests.

We made our name first in Mexico, with the granddaddy of them all, famous Lake El Salto. We’ve been elsewhere, but no other body of water has been able to match up to El Salto consistently over the years. It continues to produce both numbers and quality fish, with the lake’s fluctuation and ample tilapia population keeping it fertile and constantly refreshed. It has become the model for what a properly managed fishery should be.

Now Lake Picachos is giving it a run for its money, with numbers that remind old-timers of the long-gone “good old days” of bass fishing, less than an hour from the Mazatlan International Airport.

The Amazon also occupies a special place in our portfolio of properties. Billy Chapman Jr. first ventured into the Amazon Basin in 1980, and those were the “Wild West” days in that part of the world. Manaus, now an international city of about two million people, had about a tenth that many and there were few if any anglers chasing the peacock bass that we’ve grown to love. During those pioneer years, he explored the Ventuari and Orinoco River systems in Venezuela. Now, in addition to the long-running “floating suites,” this year we’ve added the Anglers Inn Santana, the premier houseboat in the region; and the Anglers Inn Rio Negro Lodge, a fixed resort. They offer different amenities, but in both cases the service is five star and the fishing is world class.

Been on 2 fun trips with Angler's Inn: Trip #1: El Salto only Trip #2: El Salto and Picachos 5 Star on the service while you are not in the boat, quite impressive 4 Star on Booking: Really liked the ladies that book the trips, but efficiency is not there. Many emails to accomplish booking, but I must say they are thorough. Also we decided to knock off a day of bass fishing to go offshore on our last day and they were accommodating. 3 Star on Lure Preparation: Bought everything on the recommended list both times and both times the guides look through you tackle when you get there like you have nothing to use and resort to just tying something else on. They don't have a TackleWarehouse, BassPro, Cabelas down there so after dropping a 3 grande for a trip, that is kinda frustrating. Take MANY watermelon black and red fleck everything, especially senkos, 5",6",7". Take really deep diving crankbaits. For Picachus: take the watermelon lizards and of course plenty of garlic dip. Guides are hit and miss and Angler's doesn't really give a rip about this it doesn't seem. This last trip El Salto: Had 1 great guide that really genuinely cared about us catching fish (Pancho). He would put us on fish, and if we weren't catching he would be changing us out or moving locations until we did get back on fish. He was consistent on this for 3 straight days. Tipped him well. The other guide at El Salto: (Lacho?) didn't give a flying flip about really anything other than his propina (the irony), didn't care to tie on a lure, and was just lazy. Seriously, it would have been better if had the boat to ourselves. Have caught many fish out of El Salto over 2 trips, but nothing over 6 lbs. This last trip Picachos: Julian for a young kid was amazing at being a guide working around all of the nets. He constantly paid attention, looked for throwing routes (very much structure), and really wanted us catching fish. He does not know how to tie a hook, I broke off 2 and the other guys broke 3 or 4. Tipped him well nevertheless. The other guide we had named Oscar was absolutely horrible. If you got snagged, he would just immediately break your setup off. He would leave the trolling motor such that water would come in the boat and damn near sink it. Then bail water for a long while (no wonder we hardly moved spots). Our gear would get wet everytime he would do this. At one point, I look back in the boat and he has my rod and reel (Chronarch or Curado) completely under water trying to touch the bottom of the water to determine depth! He lurked outside of our cabin for his tip...pretty bad. Food was excellent, just excellent at both locations. Picachos did not have hot showers, and the doorways are such that if you are 6'0" or taller, you will have welps on you head when you leave. And finally, I get that the propina is probably a way of life down there amongst that industry, but it gets old after you and you guys have paid like $8k in fishing fees and an additional $3k in airfare. Probably just my own attitude problem, but I want to be generous but seriously never know what is an appropriate amount to tip. Just wish it was kinda "all inclusive". Here is my money up front. Have good guides and hosts and pay them well that way we don't have to worry about getting stuck with some of the staff you have chosen or tipping our whole dang vacation. Off the soap box. Will consider Angler's Inn in the future, but will also look at my other options as well. Good luck and catch the big one!
