AQUALUM TULUM - Tulum

Beautiful space and a peaceful and quiet refuge in the Pueblo of Tulum. The space has a nice energy and relaxing atmosphere lots of hammocks and a cosy fire space. Other highlights are the big pool and the temezcal . And the Restaurant is amazing.

Beautiful modern hotel. We had an unforgettable and amazing time here. Very friendly staff. Quite a few bugs here, but that is to be expected in the area. Would love to visit again one day!

Think of AV as a boutique commune owned by Giorgio - a down to earth, art & music loving perfectionist. He and his well connected staff will make sure you're always taken care of. Although many visitors prefer staying on the beach, where power and sewage is like playing the eco lottery, this hidden gem is on the grid, well maintained and only a 10min drive to the beach. I've been back twice and continue to think of it as my own private escape from humanity. Great restaurants, shopping and simple eats within walking distance if you prefer avoiding the beach traffic.

Aquaviva is such an amazing place. I stayed here for a month. A great way to interact with local people and community. The owner Giorgio is an amazing person. The place is very friendly and they try their best to make your stay amazing. It is in Downtown tulum and very different from the rest of the hotels in the Hotel zone. I love this place!! I booked the whole AquaViva property via AirBnB and missed the public review period so I'm posting a review here on Google instead. The booking was seamless, I was in contact with a US-based host Gero and he was able to answer lots of questions about the property and my needs over email, Whatsapp, phone. My party and I were there in November 2018, during Thanksgiving week, to celebrate my 40th birthday, Friendsgiving, and wedding! This property was the perfect place to do all that!! Having read others' review about how non-descript this place was - GPS brought us right to the main door. Arriving during daylight hours is key. If in a pinch, this hotel is right behind the HUMO restaurant that is on the main avenue that runs through Tulum. We were greeted by Jose the property manager - he is the absolute best! He showed us around the property and we went right into talking about what we needed for the parties that were coming up. He took care of many details and was patient with all the questions we had. The pool was great, especially with the 3 levels for kids and grownups to play in - not huge, but just the nice size. There are 11 rooms in total (4 master rooms that line the edge of the pool with AC and fancy bathrooms...2 of the rooms have a King bed with nice mattresses, one had a King and a single bed, and the other had a King and a full size bed separated by a wall/door.) There were a few other rooms close to main door in one of the 2 wings - opposite from a nice and well-stocked kitchen. These rooms share a bathroom; only 1 has AC with a Queen bed, the other is a small room with a full size bed that takes up most of the room, and one more that has bunk single beds. While small, these were very comfortable space. There are 4 more rustic bamboo rooms upstairs, 2 with private bathrooms within the "cabana" and the other 2 with bathrooms just outside of cabana. No AC, simple, but spacious comfortable. At night, when Jose is off-duty, Aron is on-site to light up the torches that line the property, the fire pit, and help us with anything else. As for the rest of the property, the fire pit at the end of the pool is a great place to chill during the day and particularly at night with concrete steps to sit around. This was the perfect place where we set up the wedding ceremony - Mayan style. Right next to it is the yoga shala, a partially covered wooden slat floor surrounded by hammocks during the day and transformed into a dance floor for the party. Jose was able to hook us up with bartenders, runners, and DJs that were reasonably priced. There was a day in which electricity was lost to a portion of the neighborhood and Jose and his crew worked really hard to ensure we had running water within a few hours and power 100% restored by the following day. A little bit of hiccup, all handled in stride. We were there for 5 nights and only had cleaners come in 1x in the middle of our stay. This came at an extra cost but worth it! We were pretty low maintenance and cleaned up after ourselves. But nice to have super fresh-made beds and fresh towels after a couple of days. Being right behind HUMO was perfect for morning coffee, tea, smoothies, detox shots. HUMO was also where we held our wedding dinner. I met with the manager, Joaquin, a few days ahead, and planned a perfect menu. The kitchen is small so lots of preparation went into this, the staff were amazing with the service and the food and cocktails were delicious. AquaViva is at the edge of town but everything is walking- and biking- distance away. My guests and I were so pleased with AV and looking forward to our trip back again! Thank you!!

A family group of 17 of us recently stayed at Aqua Viva/Villas Aquarius and in short, we do not recommend this property. While the property is beautiful and the pool is great, many things that were in the contract or description were not fulfilled or not as described. We were promised 2 bikes and only managed to get a single working bike halfway through the week. We booked 11 bathrooms, but only 10 were available to us. The upstairs cabanas have mosquito nets that don't even close. The yoga shala is a mess of broken wood, making it unusable. For such a luxury property the kitchen is barely stocked (with the exception of the Vitamix) and the pots and pans are scratched nonstick (ew). The property, while beautiful, is surrounded by barking dogs, roosters that crow starting at 3 AM and extremely loud neighbors. Hot water in the showers is often not available in all rooms. We reached out to our contact halfway through the stay to share our concerns and weeks later have not heard anything back. The on-site manager Jose tried to help us but some things we were expecting - and had been promised by Gero (he manages the web site)- turned out not to be feasible. If you are looking for a place to party and don't care about noise at 4am this could be your spot, but we do not recommended it for a family vacation.

This place was beautiful and the staff is super friendly. We checked in really late (around 3am due to a late flight) but once we finally found the place, we were greeted and settled into our (tiny) room with not even a grimace. There were bats and other reptiles crawling around outside the room, which was a little strange for us, but understandable considering the open concept of this place. Definitely spend some time here in the daytime because it really is beautiful. They let us leave our luggage here while exploring the rest of Tulum, and that was a wonderful bonus.

Joaquin and Arnold the property managers at Aqualum make the place feel more like home than a hotel. The Communal kitchen is equipped with everything you need plus a grill. They offer different activities like temazcal ceremony. I even was able to take a shibari class. The rooms are very tidy and the bathroom was decadent featuring a shower and jacuzzi tub that could have easily fit 4 people. I would definitely return and bring friends.
