Pero su auge fue entre los años 600 al 900 d.C., en la misma época que el Tajín. Ahora sólo se aprecia una pirámide con una escalinata central, en muy malas condiciones de conservación, lamentablemente. Pero entre 1960 y 1970 que se exploró el sitio se recuperaron unos magníficos murales que narran escenas rituales de gran calidad. Los murales fueron retirados y se trasladaron al Museo de Antropología de Xalapa, a donde se exhiben actualmente. Hay un libro publicado al respecto. El sitio cuenta con un museo también; pero desfortunadamente no se pueden visitar porque están cerrados por razones desconocidas. Sin embargo, la pirámide se puede ver y fotografiar desde la calle lateral, así que no te desanimes y bájate de tu auto. The archaeological site of Las Higueras has a long occupation dating back to 1500 BC. But its boom was between 600 and 900 AD, at the same time as the Tajín. Now we can only see a pyramid with a central stairway, in very bad conditions of conservation, unfortunately. But between 1960 and 1970, when the site was explored, magnificent murals recounted high quality ritual scenes were recovered. The murals were removed and moved to the Museum of Anthropology of Xalapa, where they are currently exhibited. There is a book published about it. The site has a museum too; but unfortunately they can not be visited because they are closed for unknown reasons.
