Mayan architecture is most fascinating. It is an old structure and you can climb to the top, but the stairs are dilapidated and there is no object you can grab for safety. Also on sunny days, going up to the top is suicide but the view one has is incredible. Not even the photo could be appreciated.

Izamal is an often overlooked but hugely important Mayan city. Friendly people, beautiful place.

Free entrance to a Mayan ruin. No explanations given of what we were seeing and it had been rebuilt quite messily using concrete. Still, worth a visit if you're in Izamal.

Great free spot to visit in Izamal and only 4 minute walk from the town square. It’s a small ruins and if you climb to the top you get some nice views of the yellow city.

The archaeological site of Izamal is pretty small compared to others in the area. It's located in the very center of Izamal village - in fact the Mayan town enabled the town to be built, as the Spaniards used its stones as foundations for their buildings, even for the Convent. Doing so, they demolished 4 other pyramids that were in the area with only one left standing - the Kinich Kak Moo, God of Sun pyramid. It's one of only few pyramids on entire Yucatan you can still climb and enjoy the views from the top. Also, the site is totally free to enter with no admission fee.
