★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Amazing wildlife refuge, with spectacular views. Only about 45 mins outside of Mazatlan. The family treats you very well and takes you on a 3 hour hike thru the property and shows you the multiple areas where the wildlife have been seen in the past. Highly recommend it if you want to experience an amazing nature walk.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The Cacaxtla Plateau Wildlife Refuge isn't a developed ecotourism destination. The upstart businesses that served the area in the early 2000s are now defunct. The boundaries of this protected area are not identified, and there is no signage.
Las Barras de Piaxtla has a maize of salt water estuaries that offer bird watching opportunities but entrance to these waters requires high tide, and the boats and boatmen available to hire specialize in fishing, not birding.
Lofty cliffs and pristine beaches attract those seeking tranquility and beauty. However, there are sorely limited dining and lodging options.
