★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Hotel Arigalan has an excellent and attentive staff . We enjoyed coffee every morning and gorgeous views of the ocean . Rosa also made sure we had access to their kitchen and information about the town and where to go. Thank you Rosa.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I have been all over Mexico and the Caribbean and the many views from Hotel Arigalan are by far the most beautiful I have ever seen. I spent two weeks there and just Loved the security, peacefulness, clean rooms, great service, and specially the great attention to detail and accommodations from Rose, the hotel owner/manager. Best value and room choices for every budget. I can't wait to go back and stay a month or two.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ It is with a heavy heart that I pen my first negative review, but I can't in good faith recommend this place. I arrived at hridaya yoga for a 3 day silent retreat, and they recommended hotel arigalan, located 40 feet as the crow flies from the yoga center. I was greeted by the proprietor, and after mentioning my budget was 500 pesos per day, they conveniently said they had a room for exactly 500! When I asked if there was a location where I could do laundry they helpfully said that although they did not allow one to do their own laundry, there was a laundry service, and I could leave my dirty clothing outside where it would be picked up and delivered, clean. There was also a dorm style room adjacent which shared a bathroom for $380 per bed. Since I was going to be in a silent meditation retreat for the next three days, I didn't really need much, and the room seemed shabby, if adequate. No ceiling fan, but there was a small floor fan, a netted front door, and a xl twin bed. Perfect.
I slept OK the first night, despite the barking dauschund above my room, the other loud guests, the smell emanating from the indoor toilet, the heat radiating from the sun-baked cinderblock walls, and the lack of ventilation.
After the first day of the retreat, I came back dead tired, expecting to find my cleaned yoga attire, but unfortunately, my pile of clothes was still sitting exactly where I was told to leave it. Bummer, but NBD, right? I'm fine with roughing it... (in fact, I had just spent a lovely night on the Playa Barra de la Cruz in my hammock, bookended by two wonderful surf sessions).
That was free, which is hard to beat, but doesn't have any of the amenities you'd expect from a $25/night hotel room.
Onto those amenities. As you can see from the attached photo, the view is gorgeous, but the room, in addition to being sweltering, and smelling like a sewer, did not have a light. OK, well it had a tiny 20 watt incandescent bulb in a too large fixture. I used the one towel I was provided, held my breath, and showered in the reeking bathroom, but was sweating again by the time I exited the shower.
Incidentally, this towel was removed when they cleaned the room day on #2, not to be replaced with anything.
When 8 asked on day three to switch rooms to a dorm bed as the room was larger (and therefore hopefully cooler), and I was sharing the bathroom with it anyway, I was told, rather condecendingly that I was welcome to rent all three beds in the dorm for 380 pesos apiece (totalling >1000$MXN), but that it was already too late to do so (anyway?), as it was after 11. No mention of the fact that no one was there when I awoke at 6 am to go the retreat and was unable to find someone to ask.
Additionally, the pool is 8.5' by approx 12' (small) and is quite dangerous to exit. The beach is a short quarter mile walk nearly straight down a ton of mismatched concrete steps, with a broken and wired together driftwood bannister/railing. This is not something that a 30 y/o male should need to worry about, but if you're older, or not in good physical condition it's very dangerous.
Tl;dr
(In short) the proprietor takes advantage of the fact that many of the clients are unable to speak during their time there, and provides overpriced dorms to mediators. You're experience may vary, but if you're at the lower end of the hotels budget (380-800 pesos per night) I suggest you find a beachfront hotel cabana in San Agustinillo for half the price.
This place left me feeling ripped off, taken advantage of, and just generally sucks.
Ps: I have tried to accurately portray my experience at 'hotel' arigalan and only relied on things within the owners control to rectify. (no, my wallet got stolen from another place, or there were small kids everywhere, etc.) I asked for 120 pesos back at the end which would have left me still disappointed but not actively feeling cheated, and the owner refused.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We had a great time staying here. Amazing views with a walk straight down to the beach! We appreciated the daily yoga and meditation sessions, as well as the outdoor shared kitchen and many common areas.
Talking with Rosa (the boss) was so smooth and easy! She really accommodated to all of our needs and is a very friendly person.
If you are visiting Mazunte, this is a great place to stay on the slightly higher-end budget.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ What an amazing place! The location is so stunning, right in the middle on a hill between Mazunte and San Augustino, with an spectacular view!
The rooms are really cozy, room service is great and clean. What I also liked a lot is the silence of the place - ideally if you search a calm place to stay!
I will come back :)
