We had so much fun taking an art class with Yadis. She is talented, funny, and is very warm & genuine. Everyone should book a class or stop by to purchase her beautiful artwork when visiting Isla!

If you are an art lover, this is a MUST DO! I had the pleasure of discovering Yadis De La Torre's gallery while walking about. I spent no less than 1 1/12 hours talking with Yadis. She is warm, welcoming and loves to talk about art and the Mayan art culture of Isla Mujeres. She uses mixed media as well as oil paintings and watercolour. Her pieces are one of a kind and can't be replicated. She will tell you her inspiration behind every piece. Her art comes from love and spirit. If you want an authentic Mayan piece to bring home, this is the place to go. It is not a tourist trap where pieces are replicated to please the masses.There are a variety of things you can buy from small jewelry to large canvas ( she will sign and wrap for transport) I ended up purchasing a gorgeous moon oil painting that stood out to me. The gallery is small and full of beautiful things. Spend some time in there, look around. Appreciate her talent. She studied in Mexico City for many years with some really famous artists. Isla Mujeres has been her home for many decades now. Her English is beautiful spoken and the stories she will tell you are part of the experience. I did not negotiate on the price because I feel that true art is worth every penny. I can't wait to get home and display it. Support a local business that is outside of the tourist zone and get a lesson in the history of art of Isla Mujeres at the same time. She also offers classes!
