Public apology to doctors Manuel Barrera and Éric Sáenz A little over 7 years ago my father died in the Mérida Clinic. I was 23 then. He died after an operation to which he was subjected. His body did not resist. For years I blamed his cardiologist, Manuel Barrera Bustillos, as well as the urologist Tomás Eric Sáenz Pérez, and I even published complaints against them on various portals and even posted flyers. Now that time has passed - very fast - my perspective is different and I see things with greater clarity and understanding, free of the anger that I experienced then. I know that Barrera and Sáenz did everything they could to save my father, that they certainly weren't malicious or inattentive, and that it was unfair of me to try to vent by hurting them. I had lost my father and best friend, and I felt guilty for not being with him more these last days. It was out of me. I got to lose a few kilos of weight and I isolated myself from the world. That's proof of my state of mind then. I do feel that we lacked information from the doctors, but that did not lead to my father's death. Now I see that I was just looking for someone to blame so as not to blame myself. For this reason, I voluntarily offer a public apology (since my attacks were very public) to doctors Manuel Barrera Bustillos and Tomás Éric Sáenz Pérez. My only complaint is that we should have been informed more, but I know that this is something common in Mexico, unfortunately. The concept of informed consent remains to be promoted. Had I known the risk, I would have stayed there 24 hours.
