Beautiful old Spanish Colonial basilica. We went to hear an organ concert. It was lovely.

The most beautiful church in Oaxaca IMO from inside and out.

I've photographed the Basílica de Nuestra Señora de la Soledad a million times. It tends to creep into photos on its own, and there have been times I've tried to capture some of its moods and modes, especially the glowing red-head look it often attempts at dawn. This, then, is a basilica, which Google suggests is only accented when capitalized. This is the structure that I've been referring to here in Maps as a cathedral-seeming building, and for all I know, basílica is just another word for cathedral which is itself just another word for church. The Roman Catholics and possibly other varieties of Catholics have at least 40 words for church. I'm uploading today a photo of a couple, possibly lovers, possibly just very affectionate brother and sister, passing by the Basílica de Nuestra Señora de la Soledad a few weeks ago.

This is one of the most beautiful churches I have ever visited. Surrounding area is also lively. Lots to see, eat and enjoy.

Under restoration, museum currently closed. Still very nice looking place.

A beautiful, extremely ornate basilica located just a few blocks from the zocalo and definitely off the beaten path when it comes to Oaxaca. Barely any tourists here and just a few locals. Definitely worth the 10 minute walk from the main square. Entry is free and there is a museum behind the church in case you're interested in more history of the place.
