★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Best restaurant for dinner at this excellence. On both visits we allowed the waiter to suggest items and were always very well pleased.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We found the food and service at Basmati to be outstanding. We were a bit nervous after reading a couple negative reviews on here, but honestly, whatever other negative things reviewers said was the exact opposite of our experience.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Even though I'm an Indian, I'd avoid this place. Pretty much nothing made sense from the word go with this restaurant.
To begin with, when we reached here, for some strange reasons, they said they were fully booked and had us wait for 25mins. After that, when we entered after 25mins, only two tables were occupied.
The ambiance was bit too dark - almost as if they don't want customers to see what they're eating. They definitely need to increase the brightness.
We went for Daal Tadka, Chole Sabzi, Plain Rice and Naan. Based on the food, the chef didn't appear to be Indian. The food was okay - highly Americanized. However, the flat bread section only had one option - Naan. That's just laziness, if not lack of skills. Any good Indian restaurant will have a few other options such as Chapati, Tandoori Roti or Paratha and so on. Also, Naan is premade in yogurt which is weird.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This restaurant is a sad excuse for “Indian Food”.
Sadly the food at this restaurant was a downer in an otherwise perfect stay at Excellence Playa Mujeres.
We went in with modest expectations but were disappointed with everything.
Items ordered:
Samosa
Pakora
Tandoori paneer (pretty sure the server forgot to put this order in as it arrived after our main course ended and did not look like anything close to tandoori paneer)
Capsicum paneer curry
Miloni sabji
Dal Basmati
It became very obvious that the chef had no idea how to prepare the dishes listed in the menu as all the items lacked authenticity.
Management at the resort needs to be rethink their approach with this restaurant.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ One of the best options for dinner at the Excellence resort. It is quite small on the inside so plan for a wait if you are a big group. Service is excellent and the food is go good. If you aren’t familiar with Indian , the wait staff is great at helping you and giving you a good sampling

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Worst Indian food I have ever had in my life. This restaurant is a joke in the name of Indian food. The chef clearly doesn’t have any idea about Indian food.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I am shocked at the negative reviews here, as Basmati is far and away my favorite restaurant at EPM, and I know of many return guests who feel the same way. I love Indian food, but I had previously skipped this restaurant on past trips because they were one of the only restaurants without a separate vegetarian menu, and my husband wasn’t sure if he would like Indian food. We were delighted by our visit this trip, where the waiter ignored the menu and created a custom multi-course meal for us based on our personal food preferences. He accurately predicted our individual spice tolerance levels (mine is much higher than my husband’s), provided me with a vegetarian feast (despite the fact that the menu didn’t have many options listed), and was incredibly attentive. Shout out to Efrain for taking such good care of us! We will definitely be back to Basmati on all our future trips.
