Love Fernando and the rentals he cares for! He is a wonderful host with great customer service! We will be using him again in the future!

WARNING - Guests Beware: We booked a vacation weekend in Puerto Penasco, MX with "Super Host" Fernando of Berry Rentals through Airbnb approximately 45 days in advance of our trip. Our booking was confirmed and two days prior to traveling we contacted Fernando since we hadn't heard from him. We wanted to see if anything needed to be done prior to our leaving as this was our first international trip to Puerto Penasco. Fernando surprisingly informed us that the "owner" had rented the house to his friends, so he offered us another rental. We asked why his "friends" couldn't take the other rental as we were first to book the house and the only answer giving was "That's not going to happen". This whole conversation and "issue" started to obviously cause us some concern. Why didn't he call us earlier to try and work with us or what if we showed up to our rental without calling him as we did? Fernando offered us another "Berry Rental" property, which wasn't on the Airbnb site to review. During this conversation he did provide us pictures of the other rental, which was definitely not nearly as nice as the one we booked and the cost was the same. Fernando kept telling us that it was a better home, but the images obviously showed something very different. He said that he would understand if we wanted to cancel and provided us a few options: As a "Super Host" for Berry Rentals he'd either credit us for a future trip or provide us a full refund. My wife informed "Super Host" Fernando that we would discuss the options and provide him an answer that evening. Through the Airbnb messaging site we notified Fernando that we would need a full refund. What happened next? Nothing....he stopped all communication with us. We sent multiple (documented) Airbnb messages, text messages and voice messages. Fernando totally ignored us and kept the money. After doing some research we contacted Berry Rentals, which has a small office in Puerto Penasco. The U.S. based number advertised on their site turns out to be an anonymous Magic jack Number and the call went straight to voicemail. Later we received a text from this number saying "I'm at the bank please send a message". No one called us back or identified themselves. When I responded through text, this number only sent two additional messages: "Waiting for Airbnb to take care of request" and "hi, the transaction was made at Airbnb, they said you have to contact them. This anonymous individual never called to speak with us and didn't know that we had already contacted Airbnb Support. Additionally, we had been sending multiple Airbnb messages to our host, which Fernando never responded to. We were obviously getting the run-around from the host and company. Probably in the hopes that we'd just get tired and let them keep our payment. After contacting the Airbnb Support team, they were finally able to cancel the reservation and provide us a full refund without any assistance from "Super Host" Fernando of Berry Rentals. This company advertises on multiple sites and we want to warn others, so they don't end up in the same situation. This wasn't a simple matter of miscommunication between a guest and a host..it was actually deceitful and intentional from the host and Berry Rentals. It is our strong recommendation that "Super Host" Fernando and all of the Berry Rental properties listed on Airbnb be removed from the site in order to protect unwitting guests from this type of incident in the future.
