Blue Magic Hostel - 77600 San Miguel de Cozumel

Stayed for 4 nights and enjoyed it very much. Perfect location, 3-4 min walk to centro/restaurant area, grocery stores etc. VERY cool staff. Would definitely stay again.

I've stayed in many hostels across the world and this one is up there with the worst. There's absolutely no regulations in regards to distancing or your health in the 'rooms'.The bathrooms and showers are dirty and the receptionist and check in process are equally as bad. I'd save your pesos and book one of the many brilliant hotels in Cozumel for a similar price. Do not waste your valuable time on this place. Diving or just visiting, consider somewhere else as I wouldn't keep a horse there.

I would not recommend this hostel to anyone! Stay away. From the first moment at reception we felt unwelcome due to the manager being rude and we were informed 20 minutes after checking in that we were going to have to take a COVID test due to a positive result in the hostel. 30 pounds later on every single negative test and away we went. After having to make our own beds and locating more pillows due to a member of our group being without we continued. Unfortunately one of my closest friends got hit on the head by the incredibly poorly placed fan which was around 30cm away from his bed and on the same level.After a brief but stressful hospital trip we were ok but after we returned, the manager gave incredibly poor service proceeding to shout and be rude to us despite one of the group having numerous stitches and concussion. And at the end we lost the deposit despite no damage to any property. Having enjoyed my stay in Mexico I feel very upset that it has been ruined and I will never be returning to the blue magic hostel.

Avoid the private room. 1. I booked via hotels.com but they charged me at the property with different price. 2. No hot water for shower. 3. The WIFI was slow at night that I could not even message my friends. 4. The private room is close to the public area and it's noisy until mid night. 5. From the booking page the breakfast should be included but apparently there was no breakfast.

Convenient location. Clean rooms and bathrooms. Loved the hammocks and free bikes you could borrow.

Cons- HORRIBLE beds very uncomfortable, you can feel the bed springs piercing your back, overcrowded in room. Pros - the bathrooms are very clean and in good condition and the vibe is very chill

Great place to stay and meet fellow divers. The accommodation is free if you dive, or you choose to pay an extra 7$ and you get to sleep in a 4 people dorm, I love this smaller sized room… just a shame to have cold showers every day ? Thank you to all the great staff ! ❤️

As mentioned in my other review, a free night in their hostel is advertised too if you dive with Blue Magic too. Unfortunately dive availability and hostel availability rarely occur on the same day making this difficult to book. To make it more difficult, the dive centre/office and hostel are in two different locations, and they also don't seem to communicate much, It would make much more sense if they were in the same location or next to each other. As a result, when I arrived to check in, the hostel no longer had any availability and had not been booked. I then had to wait and stay an extra day (and book into a hotel) so I could dive and get my night in the hostel. I did ask if they could just refund me the cost of the hostel and they said they could/would not, despite it only being about 20 out of the 145. When you check in you have to fill in this form and agree to a ridiculous number of rules, more than any other hostel I've experienced. The hostel itself is very basic but clean. The dorms are a bit cramped and there is nowhere to hang clothes or wet towels or anything. There are unisex toilets and showers and the showers have lots of space. Staff are friendly and helpful. The wifi works. There's a little garden and bar out back. You're close enough to walk to everything but away from the tourist bit and on a peaceful street. There are lots of mosquitoes here but spray is provided at reception! Most people here, unsurprisingly, are divers or working at the dive centre but that's probably why you're here right?
