About Bonifacio’s San Carlos

Bonifacio’s Gourmet Restaurant

The setting of the restaurant is an antique chapel built by the Jesuits, the first settlers in town along with the Spaniards about 400 years ago.

Its think brick-adobe paste walls have been carefully restored along with the wooden Amapa beam ceilings to give it a special “old world” charm. The word eclectic comes into play again when dealing with its decor and glamour, exquisite paintings, elegant wall mirrors, discrete lighting, romantic candles, extravagant chandeliers all perfectly combine into an enchanting dining experience.

One can also enjoy a wonderful meal or a bottle of fine wine under the moon light in the garden terrace, a scented ramada full of red an white flowers or a luscious majestic mango tree al indirectly lighted form part of this beautiful scenery.  It is all part of the Bonifacio’s experience.

So many things wrong. Great looking bar but missing most everything required to mix a drink. My Manhattan was only bourbon after they didn't have 2 of 3 ingredients for a boulevardier. The maraschino cherry was cheap and disgusting. Only one wine menu for the restaurant. Literally, one half sheet of paper shared between tables. We finally ordered wine as the appetizers showed up, but they didn't have a bottle chilled, so they offered the most expensive wine at full price or one that they give to groups with a prix fixe meal. We did without. Water glasses weren't filled. Appetizers weren't finished when dinner showed up. Wait staff didn't know which items had gluten and they don't have an alternative flour to bread the coconut shrimp. They still put bread on my wife's plate when bringing out her soup which had sat long enough to grow a skin on top. The food was actually good but the experience was so bad that it was ruined, all for a price that's double what a good restaurant in town would cost. The waiter admitted embarrassment which was certainly due.
