★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Truly beautiful location. They couldn’t have made this an easier, more restful, relaxing place to stay. The staff are true hospitality professionals. There are some worthwhile activities available, but there is no pressure to buy - just the offer! The restaurant is very good for the locale and it’s polite to order a day ahead of time for breakfast so they can make sure they have fresh ingredients for what you want and have it all ready for you.
Campamento Rio Lacanja makes a perfect base for exploring Bonampak, but we would have been happy staying several days here. The rooms are sparkling clean with perfectly installed nets under the open roofs that allow guests to sleep in cabanas that still feel like the perfect climate without worrying about pests or mosquito nets. This allows for a nice breeze to accompany the perfect warmth and ambient jungle noises. It’s really a perfect cabana design.
We rented a cabana without a private bathroom and we found the shared bathrooms to be just fine. They are very clean and there is ample privacy for the showers and toilets.
The Lacanja River runs through the carefully maintained property and is nice for a swim.
The prices feel like a bargain for the quality of the property and the the skill and warmth of the staff. They may be more expensive than other cabanas in the area, but it is worth every penny for the comfort and the relative exceptional value. This place is #1 in the area for a reason.
Finally, I would say that our only regret was not budgeting more time for this place. We had 19 days in Chiapas and I would have happily stayed three nights here while sacrificing two nights elsewhere. This would be a perfect mid-point stop to recharge for folks who are doing the really big Chiapas circuit, especially if you’re driving the 307 all the way around.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very nice eco resort. The cabins are really comfortable. Great bed, pillows, light etc. The shared toilets area kept clean at all times and the service is very friendly. The restaurant offers extremely basic food, enough not to go hungry. There is no wi-fi, which is great to disconnect. If you visit during COVID, don't go to Bonampak. The murals are closed but no one tells you that until you arrive at the site and realise for yourself.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Comfortable, rustic wood cabins in the middle of the Mexican jungle and Lacandon communities. The team here is really nice. Nice hiking trails to beautiful waterfalls. It’s a nice place for digital detox and to see a completely different side to Mexico. It’s clean, not super fancy, but comfortable. Great to fall asleep to the noises of the jungle.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I went here with my family, I was HORRIBLE. Such a beautiful place ruined by the camp's (hotels) policies and staff. Everything is ridiculously expensive especially the rafts, its better in Cusas las Nubes and except for the tour, not worth it. In the restaurant they only had two things on ther menu, fried chicken or fried meat and only two things on their drink list, coffee or chocolate. We hadnt had the chance to eat all day till we got there at around seven pm and i ordered a coffee. The mug was broken and a few hours later i developed the worst stocmach sickness ive had in eighteen years.Since i didnt have anything in my stomach i was just vomiting gastric fluids and there wasnt any doctor or person available to help me. We had to drive all the way to Palenque to get help from a doctor who diagnosed it as a water infection, gave a shot, a few medicines and i couldnt even eat chicken soup without throwing it up for three days. The staff was very careless about this and instead of being upfront they were just speaking their native languagest to each other in front of us. In the context, i do consider this rude. And they told us that there were parrots if we took the first tour but they fell asleep and when we tried to talk to the locals they told us that it wasnt true. What annoys me quite a lot is that they dont treat tourists as distant friends but as a piggy back to rip off of as much as possible. Ive traveled to quite a few places and some really simple thigns were at about the price of the best amusement parks without the level of expense of upkeep. Thsi camp needs to be more caring and considerate and it needs to reflected on their service, prices and rooms. We could here every awkward whisper of the people next to us talking about their drunk epics and im sure they head me barf at least 10 times.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Fantastic place! I went there with two friends and it was such a magnific experience. Food was authentic mexican food, the cabins were clean and if you need a detox from society this is the place to go! We also booked two hikes with Marina (local from lacanjá), which I can only recommend because she knows the jungle very well

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Incredible accommodation that exceeded our expectations. We stayed in different ecolodges around Chiapas and this one stood out to us.
Amazing lake view right by where we slept with very attentive staff. Great environment, I wish we could’ve spent more time here.
