They gave us no explanation on anything. The guy was on the phone the whole time and just gestured for us to grab a few baby turtles and put them in a bucket. After that we had to figure out what to do. So we released those cute babies on the beach - but without any clue on whether we were doing it right or wrong.
Some of the babies were already dead in the camp, some others died before reaching the water.
Then the guy hung up the phone as we were leaving, just in time to ask me for some cash and whether I was single. I mean, I wear a ring and my husband was right there.
I later told the whole experience to a very nice and knowledgeable local guide and he confirmed that he had heard bad things about Boca Barra. According to him, just the fact that some babies died of exhaustion before reaching the water shows that these people do not care for them properly.
