Los devotos y fieles de muchas partes del mundo han tratado de recrear estos víacrucis en sus pueblos o ciudades. En América se hizo también. El más antiguo Víacrucis está en la Ciudad de Puebla. Consta de 14 capillas que representaban las estaciones. Se construyeron en 1606 por los franciscanos siguiendo el trazo y las pendientes del Víacrucis original en Jerusalén. Antes cada fiel se paraba a resar las respectivas oraciones en cada una de ellas, ahora sólo son un recorrido en el que se explica su significado. Cabe destacar que el Víacrucis de Puebla es de tipo arquitectónico, es decir, está conformado por capillas, en lugar de altares u otro tipo de elementos que existieron en otros en el continente. Además la mayoría de esas 14 capillas se conservan en excelente o buen estado. Las capillas se encuentran en las faldas del Cerro de Belén (cerro donde fueron construidos Los Fuertes) con el propósito de imitar la sinuosidad y elevaciones de Jerusalén. Entre las Capillas se encuentran El Templo de San Francisco, la Capilla de la Macarena, el exterior de la Capilla del Cireneo, la Capilla de la Verónica, la Capilla de Santa Elena, la Capilla de Plateros y la zona del Calvario.
