Take the time to walk away from the beach-front restaurants to visit Capitan Mantarraya, it will be worth your while. After a few days in Merida and its surrounding pueblos, we were beginning to suspect that all the food in the region was bland and somewhat lacking in flavor. Capitan Mantarraya gave us a welcomed surprise. We tried their ceviche de pescado and pescado frito (fried fish, sold by the kilo). The waiter described the selection of fish available, based on his suggestion we went with a gallego, he then brought our selection to the table for approval before frying it up for us. Our whole meal was delicious! This family run restaurant has a wide selection of items to try, we only wish we had a bottomless stomach to be able to try more items. Hands down the best meal we've had in all of yucatan. Flavorful and very reasonably priced.

We have eaten here at least 6 times in the last 2 months, and every time has been great! Portions are very generous, dishes prepared so so very well by the lady of the house, service is great, and prices are very fair. Not fancy, but really really good food!!! Keep it up El Capitan! Many thanks.
