Today, Thursday, June 7, I asked the seller for large shrimp and the precooked shrimp registry and I didn't realize ... When I left I stopped the car and rudely took the shrimp out of my car saying that I was stealing it, and threatening with its "nice language "and even with a knife. It was the seller's mistake and I never buy anything there again. That establishment is lousy The seller's name is Camilo Hernandez Arroniz. I have the invoice, it was a purchase of 1,120 pesos. I would like you to show the video where you can clearly hear that I was accompanied by a foreigner where we asked for a great variety of fish and we paid for everything we took ... Also to show the rudeness of those who work there

A friend and I visited El Mero Mero yesterday. I may have had worse service in my life, but I can't recall when. The two men "working" in the shop couldn't have been less interested in selling fish. The feeling was that they just didn't like dealing with tourists. We ended up settling for fish at Mega a block away. If you are interested in fresh fish, I would strongly suggest skipping El Mero Mero in favor of literally any other option. Or just go get yourself a steak that day rather than visiting this dirty fish shop.

TIPS WHEN BUYING SHIRMP 1. Pay Attention to Count. Size names like “jumbo” or “extra large” aren’t standardized, so they don’t mean a whole lot when it comes to shrimp size. Instead, look to the “count” number on the label. Shrimp is usually sold by the number needed to make one pound, so the lower the count, the bigger the shrimp. If you see “21-25 count” on the label, that is a pretty standard size, and is larger than “31-35 count.” To be sure you’re getting the size you want, order by the count (or number) per pound. Choose the count that’s recommended for the dish you’re making and remember they don’t take long to cook so don’t overcook them. 2. Go Frozen. Most “fresh” shrimp sold in supermarkets in MEXICO have been shipped frozen and then thawed for the fish counter. That means that the shrimp you find in the freezer aisle is EXACTLY the same as what’s presented as “FRESH”—it just hasn’t been sitting around on a bed of ice all day. Unless you know beyond the shadow of a doubt that your fish counter shrimp is really, truly fresh from the ocean, the frozen variety is probably a bit fresher. And you can take it home and keep it frozen just until you’re ready to use it so you’re sure it’s as “fresh” as possible. To thaw, put it in the refrigerator, covered, for about a day to defrost or place in a colander under cool running water. 3. Look for Certifications. Look for shrimp certified by an independent agency, which certifies that wild fisheries are well-managed and sustainable. Or look for the Best Aquaculture Practices label, which is for farmed (not wild) shrimp, raised without antibiotics and in conditions that exceed local environmental regulations. Plants that process the fish employ safe-packaging practices to reduce risk of foodborne illnesses. Only farms prohibiting practices that harm natural habitats are eligible for the label. The label is regulated through site inspections and audits implemented by the nonprofit Aquaculture Certification Council to ensure that farms and processing plants meet environmental and safety standards.

We have shopped many of the fresh fish markets in Playa and this is the best. They get their fish from the fisherman's fresh catch of the day at 6AM. Depending on the season, we buy the red snapper.

Written as a Playa resident... Bought a 2kg box of 13-15 prawns (head off, tail and shell on). Since it was out of season they were frozen in a block of water and boxed. I was concerned that I would get something well south of 2kg once thawed, but to my surprise I got what I paid for, and they were really good. We were able to get help in both Espanol and reasonably good English. I will definitely be back.
