Hello, my name is Rolando Cortes and I am the founder and CEO of Casa Cortes. I wanted to take this moment to Thank each and every one of you for supporting us in 2021.

When I started Casa Cortes in 2007, my goal was always to preserve mezcal and its culture by not only sharing it with the world, but by educating people about its importance to our communities. Mezcal is more than just a drink, it is a thread that weaves through the fabric of our culture. Mezcal connects us with our past and enables our future. My father has always said, “Agave is our livelihood.” When he says that, he does not only mean my family. He means all the mezcalero families in Oaxaca and Mexico. Mezcal is very important financially and as a precious part of our culture. It is our goal to continue to sustainably grow mezcals popularity and protect its legacy for future generations.

In 2021, as part of our company's Core Values, we have initiated projects that address fairness and equality, sustainability and corporate responsibility. Your support this year has made each of those initiatives possible.

One project that we are proud of is the Don Rafa Commemorative Park in San Luis del Rio. My very good friend and our Master Mezcalero for many years recently passed.

We honored his life in our recent Todo Santos Mezcaleros edition of mezcal. We are proud to honor my friend and his family by donating 100% of the proceeds from this mezcal to building a beautiful park in San Luis Del Rio.

Another project we are very proud to have started focuses on recognizing the contribution of women in mezcal. We recently announced our very first Ancestral mezcal and it was made by our very first female producer, Master Mezcalera Justina Ruiz Perez from Sola De Vega.

This was a very special moment for me personally and to everyone at Casa Cortes; We hope to expand it in 2022 by adding two more Mezcaleras to our family of producers.

We are also very proud to have been a part of the wonderful documentary by the filmmaker Stephan Werk. The documentary is called Sons of Mezcal, please look it up and watch the trailer. It is a very special glimpse into mezcal and its culture. Stephan did an amazing job and we are very grateful to have played a small part in the documentary. www.sonsofmezcal.com

There are many things to be Thankful for this year, I could go on forever. Mainly, I want to Thank you for your support and enabling us to share our mezcal in a responsible and sustainable way.

Thank You. Dixeebe!

Bobby of Mezcalogia is a wealth of information and the Jolgorio label of the Cortez family blows my mind with countless subtle flavors from the many palenques and agaves that contribute.
