Tulum (Yucatan Mayan: Tulu’um) is a site of a defensive city in the Mayan civilization during the pre-Columbian period and a major port in Coba. -The site is located on a cliff 12 meters (39 feet) high, along the east coast of the Yucatan Peninsula in the Caribbean Sea in Quintana Roo, Mexico. -Tulum was one of the last cities built and inhabited by the Mayan civilization. It was the most prosperous period between the 13th and 15th centuries, and it existed for 70 years after the Spanish occupied Mexico. The disease brought by the Spanish colonists of the Old World seems to have been the cause of its demise. Tulum is one of the best preserved coastal Mayan ruins and is now a popular tourist destination.
