★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The hostel was good especially the environment, clean and we'll mantained but their breakfast was a 2 out of 10. The Wi-Fi was good for regular users but for internet workers like uploading videos it was hell.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Stayed for a night in a tent, staff was vert unfriendly at our arrival, nothing was set up at 10pm even tho we made a ressrvation a day before, so we had to wait 20 minutes for them to prepare it. Breakfast is the biggest rip off, 3$ for two slices of cold toasted bread and bad marmelade on it. You have to pay to leave your luggages 2h after staying there. Never seen that before. BIG RED FLAG

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We stayed just to near to them and there is a music really really and disturbing. They played all day long and for me Bacalar is very nice place for relaxing but you cannot enjoy the sound of nature or birds, just reggaton and electronic music

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Private room is fine. No private bathroom. Everything else you pay for. Pay for swimming, pay for day pass, pay for luggage storage, pay for breakfast, pay for taxi into town and back. Staff is not nice. Hard sell on expensive tours.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ BEST: pet friendly and comfortable
WORST: electric outage for a whole day
We stayed in the top cabin, 2 people for 1000 pesos. It had 3 beds and private bathroom with hot water, lots of breeze coming in and multiple fans. Clean and comfortable. There is a communal space with a kitchen which is well maintained. There is also a gazebo for practicing yoga or hammock lounging. The waterfront access has no dock and 4 boats are stationed there. We used the catamaran one day and it made our stay very special. Everyone on the staff was nice and helpful.
The space is VERY social, communal and active. Tours full of people are coming in and out of the garden space, guests and volunteers tend to even sleep outside in the hammocs and on the lawn chairs. The kitchen feels like you are in the home of the staff, they are busy talking about their business details or personal lives, they keep their backpacks stored in the dining area, their musicnis playing, they are cooking up pizzas for sale, engaging in convos with guests... People seemed to enjoy the environment.
Unfortunately on the coastline the electricity went out for an entire day which also meant the water pumps were out of service which was a small inconvenience. Other than that our stay was relaxing. I think it's the best deal for this part of the waterfront.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Really nice spot, right at the water, with a cool place to hang out. I was in a hammock for 3 days and loved it. Woke up to the sunrise over the lagoon.
They need an extra bathroom, but except for that it was all pretty good. It is a bit far from the town though, but a taxi is 25 pesos.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Practically not a hostel.Miserable room.Smelled like bathroom. No AC, only fans. They use a room by the gate/street for reception, storing sheets/towels AND housing the volunteers and customers.Anyone who comes in pops into this small and heavily congested room.I only slept a few hours the first night and had to sleep in one of the hammocks outside for the rest 2 days because the room was unbearably hot.The bathroom was dirty and stank.Used the toilet and showered in the garden. No centralized reception/check-in system; whenever each volunteer saw me the first time, I had to justify my presence as if I was an outsider. My booking included breakfast, but I was told no breakfast. When I went for the kitchen to prepare something, I was blocked by a woman. She said the place was unavailable because a group reserved it as a whole unit and they had just finished cleaning.I asked whether there was another kitchen and she said "there is a toaster upstairs," which didn't even make sense since she wasn't letting me go inside.I walked all the way to downtown to eat.I spent most of my days enjoying the lagoon and sightseeing and used the garden area when I was in the hostel, even sleeping in the hammock during the nights.I briefly used their kayak, making up for the lack of breakfast. On my last day, I packed my belongings and placed them by the wall in the room and went for a swim. After I returned, I had a shower in the garden and passed time in the garden area until it was time for my departure bus, scheduled for 6:15 pm.Just before leaving, I went into the living space/kitchen to charge my phone and eat some snacks I had.The previous group had already left, and I assumed the people around were other hostel customers using the rooms upstairs.I read the hostel rules listed on the counters in the kitchen and living room. They clearly listed the living room, kitchen, and balcony as common areas.I just went to the balcony briefly for the view and a photo.Unlike our room, the entire place was impecably clean and neat.I was just about to leave for my bus, trying to take home positive feelings and ignoring everything else when a volunteer and the same woman scolded me that I was not supposed to go in there because it was rented as a house to another group, who apparently asked the woman who the hell I was and what I was doing there. While I was trying to be positive and let go all the nuances, these people were just seeing me as a pest!!!I was quite embarassed to think that the group who rented the entire place thought I was an outsider while I thought I was just using the common areas.I mentioned them all the inconveniences they have made me go through during my stay, including no breakfast, miserable room conditions, sleeping in the hammock at nights, showering in the garden and now being treated like a pest because they suddenly decided to rent the entire place as a whole and throw hostel customers to that miserable room/storage area/reception/staff-housing place by the road, with no keys or lockers. Then they shamed me for being negative and kept saying that the check out is at 12:30.What is to check out? There was no key to hand back, I did not even sleep in the room for the last 2 days, and had already packed my belongings.I just did not put my baggage outside the room because it is by the road and any bypassers can snatch it.Isn't it normal to pass time in common areas until your departure?Check out does not mean leaving the premises. You can spend time in a hotel lobby, restaurant, bar whatever. They obviously remember the check-out time but how about the breakfast that was supposedly included in the price and the common places a hostel is supposed to have? She said the price was just for the bed. That is not what they advertise, and a hostel is never "just a bed."They trap you, take your money, do not stand by their promises, and treat you like a pest. When you complain, they shame you for being negative.Avoid this place; it is only a ghost hostel.
