Casa Oaxaca el Restaurante - 68000 Oaxaca de Juárez

4.6/5 based on 8 reviews

Amazing restaurant. The food was great, and creative, we loved the Roasted Beef. The ambiance is very relaxing and the food delivious. Service could need a little more finesse, as we were "thrown" towels, dishes were almost knocked on our table. The platos fuertes came a bit late in between, and the we were given the wrong bill to pay

This place is definitely touristy but well located. Therefore, you have to make a reservation a few days early to be able to sit on the rooftop ? That being said, there were a lot of empty tables when we got there but they didn’t seem to be missing staff to take care of everyone ? We sat on the east corner and the view wasn’t great so I was definitely a bit disappointed ? I liked the little show they make for everybody preparing salsa next to your table and adapted to your level of tolerance to spiciness ? We were served by a few different people and they were not the nicest, they were actually acting very robotic compared to the usual friendliness of people in Mexico. They were speaking Spanish SO FAST despite clearly knowing we were foreigners. We didn’t try too many dishes but they were good! Their margarita was alright but well presented.

Decent food and beautiful terrace. doesn’t live up to the hype though, service was slow and there was a piece of plastic in the salsa that we ate and spit out (ew. The waiters really tried to make up for it, I’ll give them that). The mamey dessert was the best thing we ate.

Amazing place. Amazing Friendly service, very professional from Alex, and Cesar. Incredibly tasty food, cocktails, and desert. Lovely atmosphere. The food is also an experience where they prepare sauces in front of you and the way they serve cocktails. impeccable presentación of the food. All local products and ingredients. Try the mezcal cocktails and the mole Just a perfect meal from start to finish. Highly recommended

This was the best meal in Oaxaca. We sat on the rooftop terrace overlooking the Santo Domingo and the ambience was lovely. We ended up getting in without a reservation by showing up around 5:30pm on a Sunday. They weren't serving alcohol that day, not sure if it's common or due to the fact that there was an election in the city that particular day. All the food was very flavorful and the chef managed to make an elevated taco that was worth spending more than on the street. The best part of the meal for me was the dessert. There was the most incredible chocolate mousse ball that still can't stop thinking about. The mamey dish was also a really nice way to enjoy this unique fruit. I come from Canada and the price of the meal was a fraction of what you would pay back home for the same quality and experience. A top recommendation if you are visiting Oaxaca.

The food was great but compared to everything else we ate in Oaxaca, it did not live up to the hype. Dinner reservations are filled way in advance so it’s best to grab lunch. Impeccable service. Food wise I actually thought the best part of the meal was the freshly made salsa they prepare at your table. We had the insect plate with ants, larvae, and grasshoppers which is quite interesting. Lamb dish was good. The roast pork dish had a sour olive flavor that I didn’t quite understand. The interior and decor were excellent. Overall worth a visit but underwhelming.

I really wanted to love this place, but had a very mixed experience. The table side salsa is a treat, but it did not taste nearly as good as it looked. The ricotta filled squash blossoms were lovely and surprisingly good. I would recommend them. For my main I had the dry noodles and it was sadly underwhelming. I might come back to try their desserts, but I am wary overall. Also worth noting that the rooftop dining provides an amazing view of Santo Domingo and for that alone is worth coming here.
