About Casa Tranquila
Your hostesses, Patricia Mendez and Joann Quickstad, took the reins of management here at Casa Tranquila in October 2001. They moved to Bucerias from Puerto Vallarta where Terapéutica y Massage, their successful massage studio, was a well-known landmark in the Olas Altas neighborhood near Los Muertos Beach for 10 years. Now, with a history of service oriented careers…travel agent, waitress, home care, massage, nurse, and Moms, they bring years of experience in people care to make you feel comfortable and cared for during your stay in this little corner of paradise.
They arrived in Mexico in 1991, after driving for 6 weeks from Alaska in a '64 VW microbus. And it was worth every mile of it. Figuring that it would be the last time for Patricia and the first time for Joann to drive down the west coast, they stopped at every lighthouse on the Oregon coast and hugged every redwood in California. They came looking for a warm climate life in the small village of Paso Ancho on the edge of the jungle just outside of Puerto Vallarta.
Being avid gardeners, both the home they built in Paso Ancho and their new home at Casa Tranquila have provided the combined challenge and joy of learning tropical gardening. Now, instead of Alaska's Icelandic Poppies it's white ginger and bougainvillea, and they happily share cuttings and seeds and garden gossip with friends and neighbors.
As well as managing Casa Tranquila, they devote their spare energy to volunteer work in the community.. Patricia spent 16 years as coordinator of medical services for the International Friendship Club of Puerto Vallarta and in that job, coordinated the cleft palate surgery program. Patricia is still active in the surgery program and is focusing on the bilateral cleft young adults who are beginning to take their place in society and who need maxillofacial surgeries and prosthetic teeth. She is currently president of CAFIN, Children and Families In Need, a 501 (c) 3 foundation in the United States for tax deductible donations to these programs. ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This was our second stay and again we found the friendly reception and our day to day interaction with the owners and staff to be just delightful. There is a touch of the Best Marigold Hotel about the Casa, with guests taking morning coffee on the patio while mingling with others who might be there to buy their morning fix of high test or decaf, check their emails or just buying books in the adjacent Gringo Book store. The sun rises over their beautiful gardens with all manner of well tended tropical plants including huge Banana leaf bushes, and my favourites, Starfruit plus their magnificent display of Bougainvillea. Let the sun go down and the patio reinvents itself as the locale where the art of conversation really comes alive with some of the most fascinating stories to be heard from a somewhat eclectic group of guests. Between our two visits we noted their new and bigger room windows which have opened up the rooms and appeal to us. See you again Patricia and Joann in a couple of weeks.

The garden pool area and rooftops are gorgeous! We have enjoyed our two week stay with them and look forward to our next visit!!!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We had a great stay at Casa Tranquila in November 2018. We stayed in the Quimixto room, which was clean, comfortable, and had its own kitchen. It's a small room by Canadian standards, but was very comfortable, and had an air conditioner in the bedroom. Patricia and JoAnne were great hosts -- they were always happy to suggest places to visit, let us know about local culture, and even lent us boogie boards for an afternoon. The Casa Tranquila grounds are beautiful, with lots of flowers and vegetation, and the pool was kept nice and cool, which was a great way to refresh after a hot day of sightseeing or shopping. The only downside is the Gecko bar down the street -- it can get loud at night, so bring earplugs to block out the pounding bass. We loved Casa Tranquila and definitely plan to go back!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I had the pleasure to stay in Casa Tranquila for a whole month and I have to say I am so thankful I found them in Bucerias. Joann and Patricia, the owners went above and beyond to accommodate me and make me feel at home from the moment I inquired about staying there, they responded right away, gave me a detailed description about each individual apartment and were very accommodating with me arriving a couple days later than expected. When I arrived, its just like the photos online, beautiful pool, lots of plants everywhere, places to sit and read and relax, and the rooms all have different elements of Mexican decor. I was so happy to find everything I needed in the apartment to really just be completely comfortable and feel like I was at home, they provide you with beach towels, chairs and umbrellas, kitchen supplies such as knives, blenders, coffee maker, pots and pans etc.
They also have a truly AMAZING and super helpful staff that is there daily to help in any way. They do a complete cleaning of your room twice a week and even do your laundry for a small fee. There is an adorable book store that is connected to the place where you can get amazing organic local coffee. There are so many cute shops walking distance as well as the beach just one block away. I
Casa Tranquila, the owners, the staff and their 3 cute cats have taken a little piece of my heart and I will definitely come back.

From the moment I was warmly greeted and welcomed by the hosts, Patricia and Joann, to the helpful gentleman who helped get my bags to the room and offered me a complimentary cup of fresh roasted coffee, the pool with shade and sun, to the lush gardens.
My stay at Casa Tranquilla could not have been better! The suite I stayed in was bright with lots of windows, lovely decor, had more than enough dishes and utensils in the kitchen and lots of fans. Although there is no air conditioning, I did not need it! The suite has lots of air flow and shaded by the lush gardens. (And this time I was here in the hot humid month of August)
I’ve stayed here before and I was very happy the noisy Gecko Bar has closed down so there was no noise from across the street!
I felt safe here and very welcomed to the Casa Tranquilla family!
I would highly recommend this hotel for modest yet comfortable apartments. ♥️
