Casa Xaaninna - Macario Gómez

Me encantó. Fui en plan familiar. Mi hijo amó despertar ahí al sonido de las aves. Descansamos, hicimos caminata y meditamos. Y tomamos un rico café de olla por la mañana.

I’ve stayed at Casa Xaaninna twice now. If you are looking for an off the grid experience and like being away from the crowds this is the perfect place. The property is beautifully planned out to make you comfortable while still “ruffing it” in the Yucatán jungle. Food is good and the hosts make the place feel very welcoming.

This is the most amazing place I've ever stayed, came across it by sheer chance as I was planning a route on Google Maps, and decided to give it a go. This is an off-grid artist's retreat in the jungle (no electricity, all candlelight at night!) with Mayan-style thatched sleeping and cooking huts, hammocks, and outdoor shower/outhouse, a long-time dream of the couple who created it, Alfred and Alyssa. The feeling of sleeping in a hammock under the stars with all the sounds of the jungle was unlike anything I've ever experienced, and A&A are absolutely lovely, charming intellectuals, the type of people you come away from feeling smarter, uplifted, and more peaceful. It was an absolute privilege having breakfast with them and their adorable daughter the next morning (and not least because they're amazing cooks!) Truly hope to return here again and again, can't recommend it highly enough. N.B.: Best to plan your arrival before sunset as it's off a dirt road and I had a difficult time locating it in the dark.
