★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This square includes three churches, each with its own fascinating history. There was a guide there who provided a 90 minute tour for 180 pesos. Well worth it.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Because recent earthquakes damaged the cathedral and other church buildings they are closed to the public. See the photo of the cracked church dome. They are great examples of Spanish colonial architecture from the late 1600's to early 1700's. You have to look at them from the outside. The courtyard is still a great place to see them and to stroll. And the church holds services outside in the courtyard on Sunday's.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Definitely a place to see in Cuernavaca. The Cathedral is part of series of buildings in a courtyard. There are vendors right outside the entrance along the street as well as within the courtyard as well but seemed most had some religious significance too. The two buildings that are at each corner closer to the entrance were not accessible when I visited, not sure if they are open to the public at all. Main Cathedral is beautiful. Outside is simple yet elegant, commands your attention once you walk past the tall trees, and statue in the courtyard. Inside was dark was beautifully decorated.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ In all honesty, I expected a typical Colonial style church such as can be found all over Mexico. Instead, it was a walk back in time with stunning wall murals depicting life around the time of the conquest and amazing architecture. A definite must for anyone visiting Cuernavaca!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This isn't the actual cathedral, but a small church built just outside the monastery complex a few decades after the cathedral had been built in an impressively primitive romanesque style. This facade gives a good impression of the cross-fertilization of Spanish-Christian and Aztec decorative arts, while the cathedral itself is more basic and in keeping with the simplicity of the Franciscan missionaries who built it. There is a large, vaulted outdoor space where the indigenous people where taught (who apparently did not like to enter the enclosed space of a church).
Fairly recently (early 2000s?), original 16th-century frescoes were discovered and restored which depict sea-faring missionaries and Christian martyrdom in the Far East. Well worth a visit; wish I could've read up on this former monastery.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ There were paintings in there from 1520 wow and the stained glass during the afternoon through a rainbow of colors on the wall it was quite I'm not one for churches but this one had a lot of history and was very interesting it is a nice 15 or 20 minute stop and if you are into it you could spend much time there is a cafe there. Highly recommend at least visiting.
