★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is a small fisher's village in the state of Yucatán. It's very, very poor. It's an hour away from Mérida, the capital, you can drive of take a bus.
The beach is breathing, the food is fresh and delicious. There are a couple of hotels to stay.
Please keep in mind that this area is a reserve of the biosphere, so please don't do anything to damage it.
There is a boat ride to see a colony of flamingos, pelicans and other birds. Everything is simple, quiet, and extremely humbling.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Check with someone trustworthy if there are actually flamingos there. Guy at the ticket station said there were 70, 80 (more like 15). Our boat driver made our trip shorter. Way too expensive for what it is, check number of people before buying ticket.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Forget Progresso and all of the crowds and be sure to visit Celestún.
Quaint village with an adorable central plaza (filled with some great restaurants) and then walk 150 meters to the beach - you won’t be disappointed.
Middle of the day on a Monday and no more than 20 people within view.
Available options are tours, boat rides, more restaurants, and of course the beach and sea.
Getting to Celestún from Merida takes about an hour and is well worth the drive.
Will differently be returning to share the beauty of Celestún with others.
