I spent part of a summer volunteering in the kitchen, and have more recently become a board member of the US for this worthy organization. I value the work done by the staff at CEI for the more than 600 children and young adults currently in the program. We are always working to improve our services and rely very heavily on the generosity of our sponsors, donors, and of our many volunteers who make our successes possible.

I have volunteered each summer for the past ten years and I do see the good passed onto the children served by Oaxaca Streetchildren otherwise known in Mexico as Centro de Esperanza Infantil. I sponsor a young man in law school, a young man in dental school, and look forward to my visits with a little girl who is extremely smart and poor. Summers can be chaotic at the organization or those times when the teachers are on strike. The children who are sponsored by Oaxaca Streetchildren find the only place available to them for tutoring and programming to fill in the gaps of the educational system. The organization does an incredible job assisting the poorest of Oaxacan Children in attending school who would not have the opportunity to attend school otherwise. This is accomplished by providing a variety of services that help children off the streets and into the local school system. At this point hundreds of children have been served attending elementary and secondary school and many have continued on to complete university studies.

I was seeking a volunteer organization to donate my energy to, but after one week at El Centro de Esperanza Infantil, it was clear that my time would be better spent with another organization. The staff, volunteers, and students were friendly, but the lack of communication, expectations, and consistent guidance offered to youth were frustrating. Students were very resistant to doing school work due to a myriad of reasons. The environment is chaotic and more similar to day-care than an educational organization. I hope Oaxaca Streetchildren Grassroots re-examines the effectiveness of its field operations soon, because it was clear that the volunteers and staff would like the Centro to make a better effort to achieve its stated goals.

J	Jill Elliot on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is an outstanding organization here in Oaxaca. It has 3 paid staff members. Everyone else is a volunteer. I am a volunteer. This organization supports children in Oaxaca through donations...so that they can attend and stay in school. They pay for their uniforms, school supplies, transportation and much more. They also provide these children with breakfast and lunch. After school and on Saturdays they have volunteers come in that work with the children usually one on one to help them with their homework, to learn English, learn computers, music, etc. This organization accepts all monetary donations of any size. However for $250. (US) you can support one child for the whole year. Please take a look at this organization's website.
