★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Huauchinango is a beautiful little town. It seems to be the hub of the surrounding area. The town has a strong indigenous character especially during festivals. I think it’s well-worth a visit during any festival as you can get a real sense of what the region has to offer. The local markets always have very fresh fare and are exceptionally well-priced. The locals offer a wide selection of fruits and vegetable not commonly seen elsewhere. I always enjoy finding new, undiscovered foods. The inside of the market has a few excellent taco stands that are worth the visit. I highly recommend trying some of the local salsa with chiltipin, especially the peanut chiltipin sauce. It’s spicy, but delectable!
