★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Finally! Ever since Hoppy House shut down, Mexico City has been without a decent taproom serving a true variety of Mexican microbrews.
Thankfully, Ceveceria Metropolitana has put an end to this drought, and has even gone further. Sure, the in house brews are fine (and at $38 pesos for 355ml, less than you'd pay for a commercial beer at most hipster places these days), but they also do a great job of curating Mexican microbrews more on par with what you might hope for if you're used to drinking Dogfishhead, Founders, Rouge, or the like. Couple that with a menu that, while it won't blow your mind, is far better than what one usually expects from brewpubs in Mexico City; and you've got a real gem.
Sure, the atmosphere feels a little sanitized, but given what Ceveceria Metropolitana is trying to achieve in what is, let's face it, a pretty difficult market, the five stars are well earned. Let's hope this place lasts!
