Chapel and Convent of the Capuchinas Sacramentarias - 14000 Ciudad de México

4.6/5 based on 8 reviews

Comprising a variety of documents and objects related to Luis Barragán’s professional practice, the Barragán Archive was sold in 1995 after the dissolution of the architect’s office in the early 1990s. While the Archive forms the core of the Barragan Foundation’s collections, it has been complemented by further acquisitions over time. In 2022, the archival holdings relocated to new premises managed by the Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein, Germany.

The place is very pretty. The chapel is beautiful. BUT they charged us 200 pesos per person. We pay them. For many Mexicans, I do not think it is a fair price, we asked why they would not inscribe it to a historical monument and they told us that they could but that they did not want to avoid paying taxes and would earn less money. Ah but yes, very devoted to God ...

Architect Luis Barragan, the only religious building, Capuchin Monastery. Reservations can only be made by phone. For 40 minutes, I felt like I was given a special and precious time.

He ido ya 2 veces y siempre vuelvo a disfrutarlo!
A MANDATORY building for all lovers of architecture and religious spaces. It is not allowed to take photos or videos of any kind inside (they protect your cell phone and things you carry until the end of the tour) but the truth is that it is fine and maintains the serenity of the place. I've been twice and I always come back to enjoy it!

Hidden gem in Tlalpan, an absolute must for fans of Luis Barragan! Masterful combination of colours and light.

If you appreciate Barragan's architecture, his amazing use of color, light and volume, go here. BUT, beware that Google maps has the wrong address. When you call the Chapel to make your reservation, be sure you get the right address.
