Nicest hosts I've ever encounted to! Awesome hostel with a great vibe??? highly recommend

The staff here were not kind and obviously don’t like their jobs. They would rather talk down to guests than solve issues. Minor things would happen (a shower curtain falling, and a towel left out once) over my multiple day stay and the guy with the blonde hair wanted to raise the issue passive aggressively in front of all the other guests. My US $150 jacket went missing and the staff took little action, only claiming to have asked people in the hostal. After the articles went missing, it didn’t feel good or safe to be in this hostal, especially with no lockers and passive aggressive attitudes from the staff. I tried to communicate my issues, but instead the person choose to dismiss me by typecasting as other kinds of people who have been guests at this exact hostal! Warning, stay away!

My stay in Chile Mexicano was amazing. The cleaning and the attention of the staff was second to none. I felt like staying back at home all the time, and also met some great people that I travel along with later on. Also the internet was one of the best I've used so far in Mexico. Totally recommended and definitely coming back on my next trip to Chiapas.

Super recommended hostel for its easygoing vibe, comfortable beds and communal areas where you can meet a lot of other travellers. Juan and Miguel, the owners, are the best hosts. They're very attentive and always make sure that you enjoy your stay in the hostel and in San Cristobal in general. Their warmth hospitality and friendly vibe made me feel at home and for sure I'll come back to meet them again.

Best place. Miguel and Juan are so lovely, have a really good recommendations. Place is amazing so clean, big rooms, they are cleaning the rooms everyday. That means good prices GOOD QUALITY. Internet is 5he best. I really enjoyed this space. Of course I reccomend this space. You will enjoy.

Booked this place on hostel world and when we showed up it turned out nothing was available. Nothing out of the ordinary. Just as we sat there trying to find some other place to book the lady tending to us was very overworked and had not eaten all day. I undesrundewhy she could have been somewhat ride to not let use use their WiFi and basically urging us to leave the place rather quickly. The reason for not letinglus borrow the wifi was because her boss told her not to. Seems to me like this place's Management is a bit too overbearing. It left with a very bad feeling of not being welcomed. I would not have this place as a choice when looking for accommodation in San Cris.

Unfortunately our stay at Chile Mexicano hostel was not very pleasant. My friend and I booked our room on Booking a few hours before arrival on June 19. The listing indicated that we would have a private bathroom. We arrived later in the evening, around 8, two very friendly volunteers checked us in. They said the room with the bathroom was unavailable and showed us to a different room with a balcony but no bathroom, which was nice enough. They also told me the key had been lost and the owners were to return with a key shortly. We thought we could discuss the discrepancy with the bathroom when the owners arrived. The owners did not end up showing up that night. My friend stayed in the room while I went out to grab us some food. The next morning we woke up to find that the water did not work so we (and everyone else in the hostel) were unable to shower, let alone flush the toilets. The owners still hadn't arrived to give us a key by 9am so we asked the volunteers once more about the key. They gave us a key to the front door so we could get back into the hostel, but no key to our room so we are unable to lock our door. We went and got coffee and found a new place to stay. We returned to get our things at around 10:30, however when we went to check out with the volunteers, they said the cost (that the owner told them to charge) was slightly more than what we booked on Booking. Also we never got the private bath that we had expected and never got a key which means it wasn't a private room either, so we decided to wait for the owners to discuss our concerns. The owner arrived and we indicated that we would like to check out but the price we were quoted on Booking was less than he was trying to charge, and furthermore we did not receive what was advertised (key, functional bathroom, private room) and we found it more reasonable to pay the price of a dorm bed, since essentially that is what we received. The owner was very unreasonable, he went on and on explaining the price of all of his rooms, and that the room we got should be more etc. I have no idea what his rooms are worth, all I know is he advertised a room at a price that I accepted, and then did not receive. I understand that I did stay after realizing that the room is not what I bargained for, however I would assume that any sane business owner would try to make it right. He did not. We ended up negotiating to a few pesos discount, at this point the owner was very angry and I saw that our discussion was going nowhere, so we paid him, I got my ID back (that was my deposit until we paid for our room) and we left. A few seconds later I got a notification from Booking that my stay had been cancelled. So after we did stay and pay for our room he cancelled the reservation, so it looks like we did not. Maybe so we couldn't leave a review? Either way I would recommend staying somewhere else. Also there was vomit in the kitchen that wasn't cleaned up all morning.

Unfortunately our stay at this place was ruined because the hosts charged us over much more money for the tours that we booked with them. When we were checking out they handed us receipt with prices much higher that the ones we agreed on earlier. Right away we tried to contact the host but he didn't reply for several hours. By the time he answered we already had to go to catch our bus. He argued that the prices changed and it is not his problem. San Cristobal has many other better places for cheap accomodation with hosts that don't scam you for your money, so we recommend you to avoid this place.
