Choco-Story - 97899 Uxmal

Way more than we expected. I read other reviews saying that it was boring among other things and we found we stayed way longer than had expected! We dont have kids, so I can see that younger kids might not be into the plant names and the history of trade etc - but the mayan ceremony, monkeys, jaguar, and the hot chocolate demonstration should keep them occupied enough! Pleasantly surprised and happy we didn't skip the visit.

A very fun place to learn and see the history of chocolate. They had beautiful grounds and many good exhibits and the hot chocolate demonstration was great. Of course buying their chocolate was so worth it. Highly recommended.

This is a pretty nice museum regarding the history of cacao. Many displays to look at with everything in Spanish, English and French. This is also a botanical garden with a lot of information about plants. There are some rescued animals here like monkeys and jaguar. Entrance fee is around $9US. If you are touring Uxmal and have an extra hour or so, this is worth checking out.

Absolutely must must see!! Fantastic place, very well prepared, all in great gardens, where you can learn history of chocolate. Highly recommended, reserve even up to two hours if you wish to take part in some events inside.

Really cool Ecopark with lots of exhibits detailing the history and production of chocolate, including a tasting demonstration with a traditional Mayan cacao beverage! There are also a Mayan ceremony demonstration every 20 minutes, several rescued wildlife (including a Jaguar, spider monkeys and a crocodile) as well as a gift shop that sells unique, authentic chocolate goods. Beautiful facilities and a great overall experience! We highly recommend visiting after checking out Uxmal :D

We visited this place as, I can say now, we were misled by good Google and TA reviews. I wonder what those people found so interesting here, but for me it's nothing more than an ordinary tourist trap set in a good location, just across the street from the imposing Uxmal ruins. The "Story" depicts everything - little bit cocoa producing and trade history data displayed in Mayan shacks - almost known and boring long reading facts on boards. Then you have monkeys and deer you can see and feed, like in a zoo. Also, some crocs in a pond. There's a touristy Maya shaman performance and dance in the woods - so artificial, and at the end cocoa tasting. Maybe it's a good idea with young kids, but even my two teens were bored

I went to this beautiful and well-cared for museum during a cacao tour in various parts of Mexico. The information in the museum is incredibly detailed & insightful, beautifully laud out and I really loved the entertainment tasting the fresh chocolate. You can really see a lot of care and love has gone into this place. And even though it’s not owned by a Mexican (I read a complaint about that), I know first hand that the Belgian founder (who lives in Mérida) is doing all he can to provide fair working conditions, pay and reward for his staff. And you can’t even claim that about all Mexican-owned places! Well recommended as a stand-alone visit or as an add-on to your Uxmal tour.

Nice museum to stop by in after visiting Uxmal. Alot of interesting things about the history of chocolate and the process of making it. Plus it's very lush and shaded making it nicer to walk around and enjoy the scenery. The ritual was interesting to see and the chocolate frappe and spicy hot chocolate were really good. Yum!
