Incredible place, with that nice pantheon around. The pantheon must be respected since it belongs to the community.

Beautiful place, full of mysticism. The church, you have to enter with much respect and not take photographs because it goes against the belief of the place.

It is a very mysterious cemetery. It also depends on the color of the crosses you know who is buried there (women, men, young or elderly)

We visit the cemetery that surrounds the old church. It is curious to see the crosses scattered across the open field, placed on mounds of earth. In some mounds stacked up to four crosses which means that that grave contains as many bodies as crosses have. Some mounds have four sticks in their vertices and these wrapped in wire surrounding the grave, that means that the body that rests there was of some respectable person. The old church was abandoned when the last earthquake partially destroyed it, according to the Chamula, a temple that does not have the capacity to protect itself from a natural disaster is not worth worshiping, not even destroying it, so the best punishment is to abandon it and keep it In oblivion Now there are some ruins in quite good condition.

this is the first church in chamula, destroyed by a lightning strike shortly after construction in the late 1500's and now a cemetery. if you are in chamula for el dia del muertos, 1st and 2nd of November, every year, go here for an experience that you will always remember.
