About Churrería El Moro
En 1933 desde un pueblo llamado Elizondo, en el valle del Baztán, España, emigró Francisco Iriarte hacia la Ciudad de México, quién al llegar al país y notar que no vendían churros, decidió instalar un carrito para venderlos en el Zócalo y así traer un poco de su cultura con él y presentar este producto a la gente mexicana.
A manera de homenaje, decidió llamarlo “El Moro”, apodo que tenía un vendedor de churros en las fiestas de su natal pueblo, y de esa manera, conservar algo de su memoria y recuerdos en este nuevo negocio.
Poco a poco los churros se popularizaron en la Ciudad de México y fue tanta la aceptación, que con mucho esfuerzo se logró adquirir el local del número 42 en la previamente llamada Avenida San Juan Letrán, hoy Eje Central, en pleno centro de la Capital Mexicana, abriendo sus puertas en el año de 1935 durante la Época de Oro de México, recibiendo desde personajes y figuras nacionales y mundiales, hasta todo tipo de familias capitalinas, convirtiéndose así en parte de la rutina de la ciudad.
En 1940 Francisco falleció, pero sus hermanos José, Santiago e Ignacio decidieron mudarse a México desde España para continuar con el legado de su hermano. Desde entonces, Churrería El Moro se ha mantenido como un negocio familiar, pasando de generación en generación hasta la actualidad, permaneciendo como un lugar de convivencia y reunión, además de un punto histórico y cultural de la Ciudad de México.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We stopped by Churreria El Moro for an afternoon snack and it was absolutely delicious. If you are in Mexico City you need to get some fresh churros, they will change your life. The warm crispy goodness are melt in your mouth delicious.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Perfect Churros! Really fresh and tasty churros. We did go for 4 Churros with chocalate dip which cost us around 50 MXN. The Churros are really big !
Keep in mind that this place can become really crowded in the afternoon with 20+ Minutes Waiting Time. Its worth it though!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The ice cream churro sandwich is a must have! We also had the Spanish hot chocolate, a vanilla milkshake and 2 churros with the condensed milk dip. There was a line, but it didn’t take more than 15-20 mins and it was totally worth it!

It’s very sweet though and if you are a borderline diabetic like me, try to split the 4 churro bag with a friend instead of eating by yourself, I ate it all and did not feel well after. They also have options like mineral water over the sweet drinks which are full of sugar. I will be lifting weights and running to offset the calories as diabetes can be held off simply by this. Watch out for a dry mouth and frequent need to use the toilet, if this happens your blood sugar needs rebalancing either by exercise or medications. Still it’s a delicious treat for special occasions!!
