Cookin' Playa - 77710 Playa del Carmen

I had the best time ever. I had great time cooking and learning more about History of Playa del Carmen. I enjoy making the guacamole and green salsa. All the food was delicious and authentic.

On our recent holiday, my family and I had the pleasure of scheduling a cooking class with Chef Alma. At first we met Chef Alma outside of an electrical and plumbing store, she was very informative on the history of Playa del Carmen. We proceeded to walk to a neighborhood tortilleria where we sampled corn tortillas then went to a corner organic store to purchase some needed supplies which included jugo verde. We walked back to her family hacienda and we entered a gorgeous courtyard and proceeded to a very clean and colorful kitchen. Chef Alma gave us all our aprons and started to give us directions on how to cut the vegetables, use a mortar to granulate some spices, and create some delicious dishes. Our family enjoyed every moment while we were in the kitchen. Chef Alma made us feel like part of the family with her great cooking skills and marvelous stories. Our menu consisted of street beef tacos, green salsa, red salsa, pineapple and habanero salsa, guacamole, sauteed nopalitos, poblano rajas, calabacitas, and homemade corn tortillas. Chef prepared for us agua de jamaica, margaritas, frijoles de la olla, plantains with caramel sauce. This outing was one of our favorite memories that my family and I will always remember. This was a unique way to experience what it’s like to cook traditional food in a traditional home. It was a very interesting and informative experience. The food was amazing. Alma was a wonderful and knowledgeable hostess. We went through a local market to get all of our fresh ingredients then used them to cook several dishes at her home. If your looking for a true Mexican experience away from the busy tourist crowds while getting a chance to learn how to cook amazing food don’t pass up a chance to spend a day with Alma.
