★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The Costa Maya port is on of the nicest in the industry mainly because the vendors are so respectful. They keep their distance and don’t yell at you or harass you. They allow you to approach them first which makes it feel much more professional and safe. Hats off to all the vendors for doing a great job. The location itself is beautiful with fair tourist prices, a pool surrounded by sand and trees, entertainment, and bars. A friend of mine actually stayed at the port for the day. If you’re going to choose one port to hang out at, this is the one.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I was expecting a tourist trap, but this place was far worse. The village is owned by the cruise ships, you are funneled through a maze of endless shops selling the same tourist garbage trinkets for rip-off prices. Barrage of aggressive salesmen constantly in your face and making comments. It is crowded with narrow paths and nowhere to sit except at the restaurants. $8 for a can of coke and another soda. A pina colada, $18. Cuban Cigar- $75, each, not the box. small cholate bar $10. No beach access. Just outside the gates is a terrible area, we turned right around and back to the ship.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Awesome, not for theme park that the cruise companies built, but for the amazing culture behind the front! If you're taking a trip here, absolutely visit the nearby ruins with a knowledgeable guide ✓

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great cruise destination! We took a taxi to a beach and spent most of the day there. Shallow and clear water. The food there was delicious. We had the seafood toasts. Yummy!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Costa Maya has some great opportunities to explore Mayan ruins, along with other nice excursions on boat or four wheeler. If beaches are your thing there is a nice tourist beach at the port, and a nice local beach in town... Beautiful waters and extremely friendly people.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This area was created by the cruise ship companies. You can swim with the dolphins, visit the aviary, swim in the pool and shop in the shops. It’s not an actual town. It’s like the Epcot version of Mexico. They have signs for a traditional Mexican marketplace and it’s just fake fruit and veggies - nothing is real. The aviary was $12 per person and it was fun!
