About Cuixmala

The Casitas and Casa Gomez comprise a separate hideaway at Cuixmala. Ten charming traditional Casitas of 1, 2 and 3 bedrooms are individually decorated with Mexican arts, crafts and antiques, and arranged around a large swimming pool for the use of its guests. With endless views stretching across the coconut plantation and to the ocean in the distance, this is a true inland jungle hideaway.

Casa Gomez acts as the Clubhouse for Casita guests, with a traditional restaurant, bar, lounge and games room.

*Please note: As each accommodation area within Cuixmala has its own designated pool facility. The Casa Cuixmala pool is reserved for use of guests staying in the Suites and Bungalows. Guests of the Casitas have exclusive access to the casitas’ area pool and of course each Villa has its own completely private pool.

We loved Cuixmala. The hospitality was the best, and the place is absolutely stunning! Only small downside is the food is good but not mind blowing. Not a huge deal for us.

I booked this place in July for a trip in November (3 day weekend) November 8-11. In August I received an email from the company I booked my plane tickets telling me that my plane was canceled and they put me in a different plane with an 8 hour layover in Mexico City, so for a 3 day trip it was not worth it! Right away in AUGUST for a trip in NOVEMBER I reached out Cuixmala to let them know that I was not able to come because of the plane situation and asked for my money back ! This is when I learnt that my money was non refundable ( since then they changed their website )but at that time I thought I would lose 100$ and not 100% of the deposit.) Anyway they never gave me my money back, they just canceled my reservation, kept my money and just ignored all my emails since! Of course they rebooked my room ( I canceled 3 months in advance) so they charged me even though somebody booked the room I reserved for those days! So I did not have the chance to go but be careful guys once you book you will never see your money again and don’t try to ask for it they will just cancel your reservation and ignore you Read less

Hubby and I enjoyed our honeymoon here. Wedding planning can be stressful and cause you to doubt many things, but we never second guessed this decision! A luxury experience with the most fabulous views, food, and massages. We will remember our three weeks here forever. Recommend to any and everyone!

Staying at Cuixmala was one of the most memorable and enjoyable traveling experiences I’ve had. The land is as beautiful as it looks in pictures and the staff go out of their way to provide excellent service. The only downside is the amount of travel to get there, and also to places within the resort (it’s about 35k acres of land), but the juice is worth the squeeze. Highly recommend. Pro tip: go to playa caleta blanaca. We almost had the entire beach to ourselves and it’s stunning.

Food: was not good until we complained. This is supposed to be a five star hotel meaning food is good. No the food had no flavor and service was bad at the main house. There was only one other family staying there and everything was super slow. They brought our champagne after dinner instead of bringing it when we ordered it. Casa Gomes the food was ok better than the main house but still not five stars. The area is nice very pretty but not for the price they charge. You can get better hotels in that area for wayyyyyy less. It’s more for people who just want to IG and ignore the rest. The mosquitos during July are horrible. We got bit so many times. It rains this month so the weather is humid but rainy just FYI. The staff is nice but still it’s overpriced.

The bottom line is that Cuixmala bills itself as one of the great hotels of the world; the reality is that it's mediocre. In order to avoid wasting any more of my time, I will spare you countless other points of mediocrity and focus briefly on the food. Cuixmala is a destination resort and, therefore, one is pretty much stuck eating breakfast, lunch and dinner at its several restaurants. The food served at the beach (which is forty-five minutes away by car and cost $100 to reach) includes some reasonably good tacos. Casa Gomes, the restaurant up on the hill, also serves some reasonably good Mexican food. (I am pointing out these bright spots mainly out of respect for the staff at these venues who are certainly kind and well intentioned people.) The food at the main restaurant, the shining jewel of the Cuixmala constellation, however, doesn't change from night to night and is genuinely bad. The Mexican options are low quality and uninspired, the "fish of the day" doesn't change from day to day and isn't good, the spaghetti bolognese (who wants to eat spaghetti bolognese in Jalisco?) is also bad. The only positive aspect of dining at Cuixmala was the running joke amongst the other hotel guests. The mystery of how dining could be so bad at a resort like Cuixmala became a source of solidarity and humor. (If you do decide to come here, I would take the advice of one of our fellow guests, ignore the menu and request a plain, grilled chicken breast and a whole avocado. Ask them to actually light a grill to grill the chicken breast so that it doesn't arrive pale and soggy.) Once again, it is important to point out that the staff are all very nice; the giant gap between the promise and reality of Cuixmala rests squarely on management, whomever that might be, (its definifely not clear when you are on the premises.) One refrain we heard several times was that a stay at Cuixmala was intended to resemble "a stay at a private home." The central flaw in this line of reasoning is that when we stay at a friend's house (or host friends at our house) we greet them with a cocktail before dinner (there is no service at cocktail hour or cocktail menu at Cuixmala) and enjoy good, high-quality food that changes from night to night. To the extent that staying at Cuixmala is like staying at a private home, it is like staying at a home whose owners abandoned it a few months previousy and forgot to suggest that you bring your own food and cocktail shaker. Oh... one other thing I will mention... the night we arrived, we were told "there is going to be a concert." Gee that sounds nice. In fact, this was a party for fifty or sixty of the owner's friends (I think?) We emailed our Covid Vaccine and testing info in advance of arrival but have no idea what was going on with this big indoor party of unmasked revelers. The one thing I do know is that we had to search around to find someone to get us drinks and had to wait two hours while the party guests finished up before we were able to sit down for dinner at close to 10pm. Drifting back to the "house guest" analogy, it's like the home owners who forgot to tell you that they wouldn't be home also forgot to tell you that they had rented out the house for a new age music festival during your stay. On a final note, the turtle sanctuary at Cuixmala is magical. there is a way to arrange a visit without falling victim to hotel guestdom? Why am I writing this? It is truly intended as a public service. Consider carefully before booking a stay at Cuixmala. It is easy to rent an airbnb in the area, hire a chef, cook for yourself, find another resort or camp on the beach.

The most amazing beach property with breathtaking views, the best service my wife and I have ever received, fantastic food, and offer very unique activities for their guests. From the horse back riding along side zebras, spending the day at one of their luxurious private beaches, to touring the property where you learn about how Cuixmala is a self sustaining property. I would highly recommend visiting Cuixmala to anyone looking for a beautiful, luxurious, and memorable vacation. Thank you Efrain and all of the Cuixmala staff for the most amazing vacation anyone could ask for.

Location, exotic animals and service make this hotel exceptional. Here is a sunrise and sunset photo. I was reluctant to post because I don't want the world's best secret to be shared with others. If you see a negative review, that reviewer should just go to a Marriott. This is rural and traditional Mexico at its finest. To me, this is the best hotel I have been to in my life; and travel is a part of my everyday life at age 51.
