Enfermedad por reflujo gastroesofágico
El aparato de la deglución está formado por la faringe, el esfínter esofágico superior, el cuerpo del esófago y el esfínter esofágico inferior. El tercio superior del esófago y las estructuras proximales a éste están compuestas por músculo esquelético; el segmento distal del esófago y el esfínter esofágico inferior, por músculo liso. Estos componentes actúan como un sistema integrado que transporta material de la boca al estómago e impide su reflujo hacia el esófago. La obstrucción física o los trastornos que interfieren con la función motora pueden afectar el sistema.
