Ecocamping Yaxche - 77930 Bacalar

This place is great! Right on the lagoon it's a beautiful place to be. It's pretty no frills and the bathroom is a walk from the cabanas but the bed was comfortable and with the fan it was plenty cool. We had a relaxing couple of days.

The good: The place is really nice, lots of shared spaces to sit and enjoy the view. They can a fire but it's on request. Everything is clean. Perfect for a weekend gateway. The bad: The lagoon unfortunately is not as it just to be, now is all dirty but still you can take a good swim. The cabins are incredibly small. You need to request cleaning services, otherwise they would not do it (for environment reasons). A lot of mosquitos, do not forget your repellent. The worst: The bathroom walk is a nightmare. The bathrooms for the cabins are shared as are atop a painfully long stairs (specially when you wake up in the middle of the night to go). For the rooms, the bathrooms are not shared but quite far (20-30m). Other things to note: They do have wifi. The people are very friendly and helpful. They give you tips for things to do around Bacalar (places to visit and such).

High walls and guard at gate won’t save you from the CHEATING STAFF. We had two really weird situations. The first one was at the very begining when we order the food at their restaurant. At the end we had to pay tens of pesos more but we thought that maybe they add some tip to the bill so we didnt ask whats going on. The second one was scandalous. When we were checking in the guy ask us to pay „deposit” (for tent..) and told me that he would write the amount on the register card.. which I signed before. At the checking out it turned out that he put completely different amount that Ive already pay! If they wouldn’t give me the money after a hard discussion I would totally call the police. To be honest, that camping has nothing to offer but three „insta” swings in the water. In the tent there was not even the mattress but two mattress overlays and one small sheet, which didnt cover place for two people. Bathrooms and showers were still dirty. That was the worst place we stayed during our few weeks journey. I guess thats company which is waiting for innatention or peoples overtrust.

Accommodation very close to the beach, good restaurant, the possibility of renting a kayak, the owner could be nicer.

On check-in they tried to charge us 50% more of their listed prices online for the room. The night we arrived they weren't serving food because they had a "problem" with the kitchen. The common toilets were always dirty, one didn't flush and the other never had toilet paper. The staff does the absolute minimum but they do charge a mandatory 10% on service for meals. Tours are overpriced and complicated (one has to find his way into town to take them). Despite these small inconveniences, we decided to stay another night because we were on our last days of travel and we just wanted to relax. We informed the staff that we wanted to keep the room plus a second one because we are a party of 3. He said to wait till 12 to see if there was a check-out so we could have a second room. When I went to reception at 11:30 the guy told me that there was no second room AND he had already booked the room we were staying in. When I asked him why didn't he block it for us or informed us that there were other people interested, he said that he wasn't about to go looking for us, even though we were chilling literally 10 meters away from reception. We had to check out really fast and find another place to stay, exactly the kind of stress we were trying to avoid. Luckily, we found another place in the same price range that was great and made us realize how bad the service in this camping was. One star for unfriendliness.

Wonderful little hideaway on the lagoon. Kind and accommodating, with a fun easy vibe. Buy your boat tour here, it's more expensive in town. No vegano options ?.

Next to the Lagoon is really nice, you can enjoy the lagoon any time you want by swim in. you can also rent SUP or Kayak. you can also see the star sky at night. unfortunately the lighting in the camp site is a bit too bright to fully enjoy the star sky. I didn’t try out the food there, heard someone said the food is not good. Stayed one night and arrived before 5pm and saw a notice saying that the restaurant close at 3pm that day. I end up walked to the Pier hotel Bacalar nearby and had a dinner there.
