El Cerrito Archaeological Zone - 76900 Santiago de Querétaro

Most important archeological zone of the Mexican Region called "Bajio". 30 minutes from Queretaro City downtown. It is usually opened just thrusdays to sundays just some hours a day. Please doublecheck that the Site will be open when you plan to visit it. Near it, walking distance there is El Pueblito Town, which has mainly religious sightseeings and Mexican Food and a small, new and pretty museum. Midday is enough to expend for this visit. Very little known place but it is grandiose and good for a visit. The site museum was closed during our visit but that didn't take any from our visit, we enjoyed the winding way up to the Pyramid showing you the area's flora, you can't climb the pyramid but you can admire it from the front and sides, is a very well kept area and the staff is there to help you and enforce the policy of not taking "souvenirs" from the site. Parking is free, and is a little away from the place Enjoy your visit at this very nice place and appreciate it's significance..

My partner found this great landmark while searching online for something to do during our two months in Queretaro. We went the first time but it was closed, so we returned a week later when it re-opened. The hours are very limited - they close at 2pm, but the entry was free. When we went we were the ONLY ONES THERE! We had the whole park to ourselves asides from the workers working in the gardens. Unfortunately, the museum was closed and we were told it would remain closed for probably another month. Because of Covid-19, strict prevention protocols must be followed. Absolutely no outside food or beverages are allowed inside and you must have a face covering at ALL TIMES. We spent about 90 minutes wandering the grounds, taking photos, and reading the information provided. After your visit, I highly recommend walking over to the Callejon Calzada de Los Ancestros en route to the Monument to the Virgin of El Pueblito - about a 30 minute walk away. The neighborhood is safe and the views are INCREDIBLE (see my photos). Look up these places on Google Maps and follow the walking directions. Overall, it was a nice visit. I wish the museum had been open, but we can return another time once it reopens.

Very nice place to visit. They don't allow climbing the pyramid. They are still fixing the other side of pyramid. Beautiful cactus trees and other plants. Best to go in the morning while is cooler weather.

Really nice place. You gotta find street parking, but the walk up to the pyramid is pretty and the pyramid itself is pretty amazing (its no Chichen Itza though). The museum was still closed when we went.

Built between 300 BC to 1500 AD, this magnificent building can be seen from miles away. Pyramid was closed for some time during COVID but is open now to the public. From the gate to the actual pyramid is about 15 minutes walk plus some stairs so recommend to wear sports shoes. The size of stone consists of pyramid is small compared to other pyramids and wonder how this was built in first place. This is one of must-visit place along with water bridge.

They are open Thursdays through Sunday 9 am to 2 pm. Entrance is free. The museum is closed. At the gates they instruct you on what not to do - like go off path, take away plants, rocks etc from there, dont climb the pyramid etc - basic common sense. There is lot of security personnel to make sure you stay on track. Its scenic with lots of cactus and the paths are nicely maintained. Can hangout on the grounds for a while. I would say, a good way to spend 1/2 hour or so.
